How did you end up a CHIEFS fan?

Just curious.

The first NFL game I ever watched was Superbowl XXIV, when the 49ers dismantled, humiliated, embarassed, annihilated, decimated the 55-10. It was a SB party at my uncles house. I instantly became a Joe Montana fan. I thought he was awesome (to this day I still think he's the GOAT) so I followed him. After that Superbowl I had my parents buy me books and shirts of him. Since he retired with KC, I stuck with them ever since and never looked back. And never will. EVER. They can keep breaking my heart every year but that's where this team stays, in my heart. Corny I know but its the truth.

Moved from Topeka to KC area in 81.

They were on TV. I watched.

Instantly became a fan of Art Still. History.

I grew up in Maryland, but was the only one in my family who was born in Kansas City. As the youngest kid, I wanted to be unlike my brother and sisters, and I latched on to the Chiefs. Plus, they were one of the few teams to have a weapon on their helmet, which I thought was cool. Thus the mind of a child.

Then as a teenager, I learned about the history of the NFL and Lamar Hunt, and I realized that I was fortunate enough to already like a team that contributed to the game that I love to watch and follow, rather than to siphon off of it or line their own pockets. Admiring the actual owner of the team, rather than following one of the many millionaire merceneries who took a job with them, just cemented it.

Holy crap! Raiders/Chiefs from Week 13, 1971. We kids wrested control of the TV from Dad for a short time, and saw the end of this game when the Chiefs drove late to beat those scumbags. This is the day I became a Chiefs fan.

I'm about to watch it. Curious to see if it looks the way I remember it.

It's a doubleheader, though, so go to 12:50 unless you want to see Vikes/Lions.

Holy crap!

Grandparents: All four born and raised, lived and died in Eastern KS. (One Grandma still alive and going at 100 years old!)

Parents: Both Born and raised in KS. Went to college in Missouri...for some reason decided to strike west in their 20's and ended up in California.

Aunts/Uncles/Cousins: Mainly in KS and Missouri.....

Me: Born in California, forever alone with no family...as all my relatives are in KS and MO.

Started watching football way back when...way before Joe was a Chief....I started watching in the 80's when Theisman and the hogs and smurfs were the shit, and Joe was a niner...and da Bears were bad ass.....but my dad is a chiefs fan, and we always watched NFL, even b4 sunday ticket he was trying to dial in the chiefs games on a huge satellite. We also got a chiefs newsletter that was like mailed out with all the chiefs news on it (pre internet).

Chiefs always and 4 ever.

Why would you assume we're all fans of the Chiefs?!?
Just because the consensus on this board believes the Chiefs suck balls doesn't mean we're all fans. There are 5 or 6 of us who aren't...

It's interesting how so many of you became fans through Joe Montana, (nothing wrong with that) .
I wonder who the next generation of CPer's will credit for making them a fan of the Chiefs...

I was born and raised in KC. The Chiefs were always on either the radio or TV so being a fan was natural.

Random game I saw in 1995 on national TV when I was 10. Obviously had some great players but I really liked the sea of red, the noise, and honestly, the helmets. Derrick Thomas was the clincher over the next year or so.
