Carpet cleaning tips?

I rented a cheap apartment about six months ago. The carpet was pretty old and dreary.

Through partying, having drinks spilled, on it just general tracking dirt on it have added a bunch of stains myself. I had not really cared, but some recent events have drawn my landlord's attention to it. I'll be honest the carpet should have been replaced before I moved i. The rent is real cheap. If had some problems in the time I've lived here and want to avoid further controversy.

I have been dragging a damn Rug Doctor around for a couple hours now. I've pulled so much dirt out it's crazy. The persistent stains have only faded slightly. I know many of you guys have pets, bars, etc. Sorry for the rambling, but any suggestions?

Mix with hot water. Pour on stain. Scrub with brush. Vacuum up with Rug Doctor for 5 minutes.

Antifreeze. It may not get the stain out completely, but if you use it right it won't matter...

If he didn't notate the condition on his move-in checklist the landlord can keep the deposit, and even charge him if the cost of replacement exceeds the amount of the deposit.

Is using a carpet cleaning service for some reason not an option? It wouldn't be all that expensive for an apartment, depending on the square footage. They'll do a far better job for you than a rented Rug Doctor. The differences are the temperature they can get their equipment to and the extraction after the cleaning.

This was really my first thought.

All the money you're going to spend on renting equipment, buying cleaning supplies, and stuff like that - just hire a carpet cleaning service instead. Like RJ says, it won't cost that much for an apartment (hell, if you just need one room done, next to nothing) and the results can be amazing. Their professional equipment is light years past what you rent at the grocery store.

Work smarter, not harder.

I've gotten it decent. It's just a couple red stains left. Other stuff is bothering me too. The seams were all shot lots of stains I cleaned out today. The carpet was no good. Thanks for the advice guys.
