Panthers' LT Jordan Gross will retire (B.Albert is gonna get PAID)

Another NFL hole at LT. Add one more team that'll be looking at B.Albert...

The Panthers have been clearing salary cap space this week, but they won’t need any of it for left tackle Jordan Gross.

Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that Gross has decided to retire rather than return for a 12th NFL season. An official announcement is expected to come on Wednesday.

Gross was set to become a free agent next month, but said at the end of last season that he would either play for the Panthers or no one. Gross, the eighth pick of the 2003 draft, was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and made the AP All-Pro team after the 2008 season.

His retirement leaves a big hole for the Panthers to fill on the offensive line as Gross was still playing at a high level in 2013 without much reason to expect a slip in his game in 2014. Some of the cap space created by restructuring the deals of Thomas Davis, Jonathan Stewart and Ryan Kalil could be earmarked for finding a replacement, although the Panthers have 20 other pending free agents and some other work to do on the offensive line this offseason.

Well, it would be better than getting nothing for him right?

No...not if you fail to make a trade and get saddled with his 2nd year tag. Chiefs don't have that kind of cap room.

Pretty sure that someone would trade a 3rd or at the very least a 4th for him. Better than getting nothing this year.

You can bet that the new team would insist on getting a long term contract. But yeah, something is better than nothing. It still takes 2 to trade.

Please Tag and trade him. We don't have to ask for the moon but we could at least get a 2nd

nobody is going to give up a 2nd for him in this draft, nobody wanted to give up a 2nd last year in that crappy draft for him either.

I think saying they have 0% chance to resign him is silly. If he feels he can stay with Kansas City and be a winner, I could see him taking a LITTLE less to stay. I'm not so sure they really want him all that bad.

Who the hell wants to play for the Cards, Dolphins, or Bucs? Those are 3 pretty shitty organizations right now.

Where exactly are you fitting that $11 million dollars in our cap space to tag him?

If any team is willing to give up a third rounder for BA IN THIS DRAFT, I'd take the deal in a heartbeat, but I highly doubt that's gonna happen.

1) a comp pick wouldn't go into effect until next year
2) his playing time and contract dictate the quality of the pick. If he goes somewhere and gets hurt, we might get a lower pick than a third.

A mid third in this draft is worth a mid to high second in any other normal draft.

The problem is that he is on the hook for 12 million on a one year, guaranteed deal on the tag (after the 120% increase for second tag...if we can't trade him, we not only have to pay Albert that $ (once its signed) but we don't receiver a comp pick next year.

That's a huge gamble.
