One of my favorite things is driving cross country. It's so peaceful and something I must do from time to time. Just me, music, snacks, weed, my fellow travelers, and the language of the road. I eat what I want, when I want and piss in some pretty shady shitters. And always a Suzie-Q. That's just tradition.

It's great to group up with fellow travelers and create a convoy, with cars taking turns leading the pack. An unspoken rule. When someone needs to exit, they always flash their lights to say thanks and safe travels.

If I have to pass a Trucker on his right, I'll flash my lights to let him know I'm coming through. Heck, I do it on his left too. I'm sure they appreciate it.

When a truck is passing me, I flash my lights on/off when his trailer is clear. Always cool getting that on/off returned.

Always. Always. Always. If a guy comes up behind me, I pull over and let him pass. Always. Then I'll match speed. New travel buddy.

If I have to squeeze in, or do something foolish, you will always see me stick my arm out of the car with a piece sign, a wave or devil horns to acknowledge it or to say thanks.

What are some other examples of the language of the road?

I prefer to drive all night and always take the time to check out the stars out in the middle of the desert. Stunning.

I run at 9 mph over posted speed (highway) and have had Patrolmen come up on me and run my plates, then blow past. Sometimes flashing their lights at me on the way by. One shined his spotlight at me as he went by. I do flash my headlights on/off and we both go our separate ways.

I dunno. I love it.

I drove through some pretty desolate areas of Wyoming last summer and if someone would have done that I probably would have slowed down to 20 mph just to see if they would pass me.

That is strange if that happens to me I automatically think the dude is a weirdo.

We do that up north at night on desolate roads to allow the person in front of us to hit the deer and not us.

I guess I could see that. I saw dozens of dead antelope on the highways in Wyoming. Those things were like ****ing rabbits in southeast Wyoming.

The guys who mow the right of way really appreciate that. We've had to switch to more expensive cab tractors just to protect our guys from your piss mines.

I only ever hit one deer. Driving to 6 a.m. basketball practice in high school. A buck came right out of a high rise ditch and I never saw him, He ran straight into the front wheel on the passenger's side of the car. I was going about 60 MPH on a two lane country road but that SOB got up and limped right into the woods. Not sure how I didn't snap his legs. I wasn't late for practice though.

I use my horn and one or both of my middle fingers a lot. People seem to understand what they mean.
