The reality is the defense wasn't good enough this year. Blame it on injuries, blame it on whatever you want, but I'm sorry....bend but don't break isn't gonna cut it vs the elite QBs in the postseason. You can't expect a Brady to make the same mistakes that you saw lesser QBs make throughout the year to bail us out.

I guess people just look at offensive numbers and ignore the fact that they were barely on the field because our D was consistently getting gashed in the run game.

I'll put it this way...I have more faith in the offense making a crucial play than in the D getting a critical stop. The pass rush is nonexistent most of the time. I'm tired of people giving the defense a free pass. It was very solid the last 2 years but not this year. Only opportunistic.

Let's hope we don't lose Dorsey and he shores up the lines and linebacking corps, and Bailey and/or Howard return and make an impact.

As Mellinger put it in his column, "The offensive line was mauled. The pass rush created almost no pressure."

Replay of the first game at Pittsburgh. Score was closer because the Steelers didn't execute in the red zone.

Going forward, one of these things has to happen:
1. Fire Andy Heck.
2. Upgrade line (Yes, Fulton sucks but is upgrading his position enough?)
3. Upgrade at QB (Smith, like most QBs, requires good pass-blocking)

(Look at Dallas, Pittsburgh, and GB. Three best pass blocking lines in the game.)

If none of these things are addressed, it'll take extreme amounts of luck to beat good teams in the playoffs. And let's face facts: #3 is all but possible going into next season.

Now, the D has issues, too. Not sure what the solution is there.

Yet our offense could only come up with 16 points. Our offense has been lacking all year and supported by special teams play and pick 6's on defense.

10-6. Half of this board will have amnesia and act like this is the year, Chiefs will lose in the playoffs when Kelce fumbles in the red zone.

I like the optimism however like most years, I'm going to be EeyOre and say the Chiefs finish 7-9 and out of the playoffs.

The schedule next year looks pretty tough... Probably not going to sweep the division again.

Can't just judge them by points scored (or even yards). Pittsburgh dominated the time of possession by gashing our D with the run.

Now there are obviously problems on offense...dropped passes, poor run blocking, not finding open receivers. I just don't understand why the D gets such a free pass.

Imagine if it were reversed and it was the offense that was "opportunistic," consistently converting short fields into scores but rarely putting together long drives or big plays, and getting little push from the line. Would we call it a great offense and never criticize it?
