The Unpopular Thread

It ain't all Alex' fault. And it's not all Andy's fault. You don't want to hear that but it is true. We won our division with smoke and mirrors.

We had the worst running game and couldn't stop anyone from running on us. We are deficient on both lines and our running backs are below average. Had we made it past the Steelers, our train would have surely stopped in New England.

Only the top echelon of QB's could have overcome those deficiencies.

Truth is, we need help on the lines more than anything, followed by a quality running back. Spencer Ware has as much vision as Mr. Magoo. If somehow a top RB falls to us at 27, it will be tough to pass them up.

I want a QB as much as the next guy and I'm sure we'll get one SOMEWHERE in the draft, but we better address the lines too.

I disagree with everything in this post.

First off, beating the Falcons, Raiders, Broncos and Panthers, ON THE ROAD, isn't "smoke and mirrors". That complete lunacy.

The offensive line struggled at the guard position because Ehinger was injured in October (and at the Texans), which mean leadfooted Zach Fulton had to start the remaining games. Despite what some people believe, he's an awful run blocker and doesn't get out in space. LDT had more growing pains this year and still needs to add muscle. I assume the Chiefs will add a guard in Free Agency or earlier in the draft. With the history of ACL's taking a year or more, it's unlikely that Ehinger is ready to start Game 1 and this team cannot go into the season with Fulton at LG.

The defensive line will fix itself. Chris Jones will be in Year 2, while Jaye Howard and Allen Bailey return. RNR received valuable experience and will be a great rotational player next year. The Chiefs can re-sign Reyes or Jenkins (I prefer Reyes), plus they have David King on the PS, who bounced from the PS to the 53 all season. Drafting another DL is probably a lock as well.

Finally, there's no ****ing way the Chiefs should spend the #27 overall pick on a running back, unless it's Dalvin Cook, who won't likely be available and if he is, it's not a given that he's the BPA. And if Mahomes is there at #27 and they pass, well, the whole Chiefs organization can just **** right off.

It's time to get a QB and stop ****ing around.

No amount of upgrading our defensive line could have overcome the Steelers holding every play.

The NFL does not want the Pats going to the Superbowl. They figured the Steelers had the better chance to beat them. The Pats winning the Superbowl this year is the ultimate **** you to the NFL after they pulled all the deflate gate bullshit.

I agree, and I'm of the opinion that unless another Chris Jones is available, DL will mostly take care of itself with Howard and Bailey. But we can't forget, Poe is likely on the way out...

You're right, they were holding, but our OL was pretty well below average all year in the run game. They got next to no push. Ehinger has potential but we can't assume he will be fine and even if he is, the other guard spot could be upgraded.

We need a physical ILB too. Tough puzzle to piece together all around but our run game is missing some things, especially with Alex not running.

The OL struggled in the run game bc teams stacked the box a lot and Fulton was terrible.LG has been a huge problem bc we haven't had one that was consistently healthy.
This OL will have chemistry and experience together next year and that in itself is going to be valuable.

I've said this for a year and I'll keep saying it until we address it: this team desperately needs a TE that can block.
Go watch the Titans stop at the 1 yard line. That was both O'Shags and Harris ****ing up blocks.

This team needs to do everything to get a QB like Mahomes. We have plenty of ammo to do get him. If they don't draft a QB in the first 2 rds then there is no reason to think anything would change.

Yeah one thing I could never quite figure out is we kept 4 TEs and not a single one was a blocking type. All finesse receiver style. It was excessive.

I cant make myself buy that about the O line... we cant just point to Fulton and say "see? that ONE guy is the reason we cant run", there is definitely something missing there besides some rookie guard in Ehinger

No chance I buy that kind of impact from a raw rookie guard

But who actually needs upgraded is tougher to put a finger on IMO

Is it Morse right in the middle, can he generate push in the run game, is he nasty enough in mentality?

Is it LDT, is he decent at everything but sucks at any one thing?

Is it Fisher? Is HE the reason we cant get a push in the run game?

Schwartz has looked like a pass blocking RT to me from day 1, and thats fine in todays league... at any rate he is NOT a mauling, road grader over there

I genuinely dont know whats going on there, but I've been saying it since at least midseason... this O line is much too finesse

Cant run up the gut, cant get a 3rd and short to save their lives... one thing is for sure, this line has a physicality problem

Then you need to chart out the plays from each game this last season. I did early on and Fulton was clearly the issue, as was Schwartz, who was apparently dealing with an ankle issue. Morse took a step backwards as well. LDT has "upside" but as I've said in the past, by the time he reaches his ceiling, he'll be ready to practice medicine.

The Chiefs need better guard play if they're going to run between the tackles, plain and simple.

it might not be his "Fault" but he sure didnt take the game over. He sure had alot of 3 and outs. He sure refused to throw deep.

Its a combination of things, but Alex still isnt that guy to take a game over. The dude went 20-34 for a whooooping 172 yards! YEAH. its not his fault.

Man, its certainly possible I'm underestimating Ehingers impact... maybe the consensus raw and not ready functional strength-wise guy was just better than advertised in technical ways that arent always obvious

You're making a great argument, but I'm still on the fence... Fulton didnt see like some huge albatross last year

I'm going to post a gif of O'Shags and Harris missing blocks that ruined the drive in the 1 yard debacle vs the Titans.

I'm gonna use that gif every time someone tells me we don't need a blocking TE

Ehinger was much better in the run game than the passing game to start the season but was making strides in pass pro before tearing his ACL against the Raiders.

Fulton is much better in the passing game than in the running game and after 3 years (in which he spent 16 games as a starter his rookie season at right guard), he's hit his ceiling as a guard.

I'll never understand why Fulton wasn't moved to the starting center position, with Morse at the Left Guard spot, because he's much more mobile than Fulton.

But then again, I don't understand many of the personnel decisions that are made by Andy Reid.

Our front 7 was decimated this year. We lost Bailey and Howard on the line. We lost Mauga, March-Lillard, and eventually DJ. Hali is old/hurt/a shell, and Houston really only played one game this season where he looked like Justin Houston. I attribute our god awful run defense and pass rush to all of that. Should be better next year depending on what happens with our roster.
