My thoughts on Pat

I was going to post this on another thread but it felt too long for a post so I turned it into a thread. Read it if you'd like or don't, I just woke up absolutely elated and needed to type this out. So many things to be ecstatic about here.

1. Two firsts and a 3rd is pretty damn cheap to move 17 spots imo. I mean, the Texans dont have a 2nd this or next year now or a first and they traveled less than we did. We still have 8 picks left and Dorsey has more than earned the trust of the fans that he can do some work with those.

2. We got our guy, plain and simple. You go through CP for the last month or so, and the vast majority were on the Mahomes bandwagon. It may be because of the fact his style is a polar opposite of Alex's which we've grown to despise. It may be the fact that he walks into the NFL and automatically has a top 5 arm in the league. It may be the fact that our situation is absolutely perfect for him to redshirt and work out the kinks that everyone is aware he has. Whatever it may be people were fascinated by this guy, and I for one as a Chiefs fan was full on expecting for another disappointment. Not this year, not this regime. We got our guy, after decades of waiting for a first round QB that would be worth it, we got him.

3. The most understated factor of this entire thing for me is the fact that I can finally enjoy watching Alex play QB for us because I know we at least have a future plan beyond him. Look, we all have our thoughts on the man. He's ultra-conservative, he takes too many sacks, he wont throw the ball past the first down marker or into the end zone, everyone has their own complaints about the guy and it's very very very warranted. But we've won. Think back to what it felt like on a weekly basis during the Herm era. The Pioli era. The GOT DAMN BRIAN DABOLL ERA. What would you have given to have a team to root for that consistently wins? Thats what Alex has brought to this team. Yeah you can give Andy, or Dorsey, or the defense, or even Toub the credit for most of the success over Alex during this time, but at the end of the day Alex was our QB that led the Chiefs resurgence into relevance and success.

Trust me, he pissed me off just as much as all of you, but I for one will enjoy his remaining year (maybe two) with KC and will be more than happy to be thankful for him once he passes the torch to Pat. He's brought wins for us, which brought us happiness. Wasn't always the prettiest, but thanks to him he's made me happy more Sundays than not, and as a football fan, I can be pleased with that. Thanks for your service Alex. Now go out there, win most of the remaining games you have left with us, recoup enough value so that we can ship you off to the Browns next year for a 1st, and enjoy the rest of your career, we'll take it from there.

I've never hated Alex Smith like most here. I'm not yet recovered from the Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards/Scott Franchise Killer Pioli and was absolutely not in favor of the ANYTHING IS BETTER ANY ****ING THING!

Because it's not. We've had scrap heap shit and it isn't better. Smith is OK. He's not getting it done. Everybody knows that. He may catch lightning in a bottle and make some plays like the indy game and if he doesn't have to do it all it may happen. But he's not the answer.

Then along comes swinging dick Dorsey, whips pussy in trades and gets a top 10 pick while winning 12 games.

Mahomes may not work out. In point of fact most guys don't. But Dorsey - a real live GM - not some coat-tail riding pole smoker or dumb **** I WAS DB COACH IN SUPA BOW SO I KNOWZ AWWW sister****er. Dorsey, did his homework - you know because he knows how - and took his shot.

That's all we can ask. A real live personnel guy, not some sword swallowing wanna be assface that we've had all these years, picked his guy and had the nuts to do it. Not some ****ing safe mother****ing Defensive ****ing tackle that will ****ing bust because that's the Chiefs way. **** that ****ing shit.

Our guy got his guy. It may not work, but he's got miles of rope from me.

Great post. It really feels like a huge weight off of Chiefs fans. So tired of hearing about our shitty QB history. We have something to look forward to now.

Welcome to where I've been, it's been a wait. Hopefully others follow.

My dispute has never been finding Alex's replacement. It's been desperation, INCESSANT anger, and the willingness to take anything, so long as it's different.

Dorse is a grown-ass man, and now the question is if Andy & Co are still up to taming a wild horse.

I love the fact that Dorsey identified his top QB and did what was necessary to draft him. I don't personally think it was too steep of a price.

On Mahomes - obviously you love his arm, ability to move and attitude. I'm always concerned with QB's who don't show the ability to play from the pocket all that well, which Mahomes struggled with.

Even if he's a bust, it was time for the organization to finally make an attempt at developing their own franchise QB and I wouldn't hold it against Dorsey.

Grab a receiver like Ford (Virginia Tech) in round 5.

Good post, Ashhole1056.

In all seriousness, I am feeling happy for all of the KC fans that have suffered through the years of no rd 1 QB to develop.

I didn't like the decision, but I sure understand it, and will be pretty excited to see a more aggressive QB throwing to the weapons KC has.

... as for Alex, he's still my boo... but it's ON HIM that this was done at this time. He just never took his game up to a higher level when it counted. He did against Indy not long ago, but needed to become THAT guy on a more regular basis.. but too rarely did.

He shouldn't get the hate he does... because winning and being an above average team should not be taken for granted... but it's about time to take it to the next and ultimate level. Smith just hasn't been showing enough promise to be able to do that... and his mind is and was set on cruise-mode to rake in the millions for himself and Foundation.

So, welcome Mr.Mahomes. I hope my draft negativity of you has been ill-placed.. and you truly earn on the field the draft-love KC gave you.

Pretty obvious Dorsey is not the only one that thought Mahomes was better the others. Some media is giving us shit because we didn't take Watson. If he's so great then why was he the third QB taken?

It's simple, he doesn't have the talent level Mahomes has and teams passed. I think Watson must not been impressive in the interviews and film watching. How else could Mitch have passed him up? Had to be film knowledge.

I was taken in by Watson just because I wanted a qb so bad. I think Pat's arm is the difference. You cant teach that. Its almost like Watson has everything else but a strong arm.

Watson is Alex Smith with a weaker arm and smaller frame.

I don't think Watson will translate well in the NFL. He's not very accurate with the deep ball. He kinda just chucks it up there. He's particularly accurate in the short game either.

Inaccuracy leads to turnovers. Couple that with his slight frame and you're gonna have a timid QB.

It reminds me of the Smith/Rodgers year.

Watson is Smith. Mahomes is Rodgers.

People respond to "the NFL change" so differently... and over initial years..

So to state these things just doesn't seem... right, Detox.

To me Watson is a mature geno. If thats good enough I dont know.
I watched some Clemson games and he tried making plays down field.
As far as the ability factor goes though I agree with your analogy.

He's definitely the 100% antithesis of Alex. I dont know how many times I saw him on tape launch balls 30 or 40 yards downfield from an awkward stance with defenders diving at his knees. He doesn't always use good technique, but in that respect he reminds me of Rivers. Another thing is his eyes are always down the field, long to short. At the first sign of pressure Alex lowers his eye level and starts looking for a way out, so did Cassell. Mahomes doesn't always use proper technique, he backpedals and his footwork is often wrong, but his eyes are always DOWN the field. You can correct the footwork, but it's impossible to correct that baseline instinct to keep the eyes down the field amid a sea of chaos. Get him some big long receivers on the outside and this guy is gonna be really fun to watch. The Stafford arm comparison is good one but I think he has significantly better instinct and accuracy. Stafford takes too many big hits and isn't good at operating amidst a dirty pocket.
