How many of draft picks/UDFA make roster this year.

How many and who do you think make the roster this year?

From the list I have seen -

Chance to make the 53-man roster
Jerome Carvin, OL, Tennessee
Deneric Prince, RB, Tulsa
Cam Jones, LB, Indiana

Chance to make Practice Squad - (Maybe 5 make PS)
Demarcus Elliott, DL, Indiana
Martez Manuel, S, Missouri
Anderson Hardy, OL, Appalachian State
Isaiah Norman, S, Marshall
Anthony Cook, S, Texas
Isaiah Moore, LB, NC State
Quinton Barrow, OL, Grand Valley State
Nikko Remigio, WR, Fresno State
Reese Taylor, CB, Purdue
I know they like Cam Jones a LOT. Wonder if we can slide him on the PS.

Has he completely recovered from his 2022 injury?

I figure as usual we would keep 5 LBs -Nick Bolton, Willie Gay Jr, Leo Chanel, Drue Tranquill and there would be competition between Jack Cochrane, Cam Jones, and maybe throw in Isaiah Moore. May the best man win, and the others might get PS spots.

On draft picks, they all make 53 but Nic Jones will have to battle for last spot at CB.

L'Jarius Sneed, Trent McDuffie, Joshua Williams, Jaylen Watson, and Nic Jones will compete with Decaprio Bootle and Nazeeh Johnson for last spot.

53 man? Most, if not all of the draft picks.

Uzi - replaces Clark on the roster (for the purposes of this conversation, Omenihu replaces Dunlap)

Rice - duh.

Morris - replaces Wylie

Conner - displaces Bush

Thompson - knocks off Kaindoh and/or Herring

Coburn - replaces Saunders

Nic Jones - that's iffy. I think he'll be a PS guy similar to Nazeh Johnson and may see some time if there are injuries.

UDFAs - not much room at the inn. I honestly don't think any of them make it. Prince and Jones are the only ones I can figure. Jones would have to toss Cochrane and that's possible. Prince would have to not only pass Perine but also perform well enough to prevent any veteran additions and given his complete inexperience in the passing game, I think that's awfully unlikely. He seems like a PS guy.

The draft, while not truly 'need' based, clearly had an element of need to it as the Chiefs very openly attacked areas that had been thinned out by free agent defections. As such, each of those guys they drafted should have a pretty clear shot at the 53.

That feels like PS to me. If they have Carvin on the 53, it would be at the expense of Kinnard.

I think Allegretti is your primary backup C/IOL with Kinnard as your G2 in the event of multiple injuries. Meanwhile you can stash Carvin on the PS and call him up to the active if needed.

I think the Chiefs carry 6 WRs this year and allocate the FB slot to the 4th TE.

I think they carry 9 OL:

Taylor, Niang, Morris, Prince, Thuney, Smith, Creed, Allegretti and Kinnard.

I was trying to think the other day, who was the last undrafted rookie free agent that we signed up that made the team? technically Ross?

It's a long shot but there might be a defensive tackle or offensive tackle that I'm forgetting about. I guess there are some special teamers too

You think Saunders get whacked?

Team including practice squad; I go on the high side of 7-8

Teams recycle practice squads often.

If he is healthy, I think Cam Jones makes the team. Healthy, he should be better than Leo, and definitely better than Cochrane. I would also be surprised if Prince isn't on the 53 man roster.

I hope Jerome Carvin shows enough in camp to stick around. He played in the SEC, played all across the offensive line, and didn't give up a sack in almost 800 snaps. We could really use a versatile backup offensive lineman who can play every position on the line, including center.

He's essentially a UDFA version of Ronald Jones. And a small-school version of that.

And Jones just seemed like an awkward fit all season. I'd give Prince no better than a coin flips chance because he just isn't someone that fits a niche if Pacheco is healthy.

It's not about talent at that point, it's about roles. And his role would be little more than someone who gets carries if Pacheco goes down. And as a UDFA, that's what the PS is for.

Now if he stands out in camp or in the pre-season, he can absolutely earn his way on. But right now, and with RBs being a dime a dozen, I don't see any way to say he's likely to make the roster.

Makes sense.

I've kinda been wondering if we don't end up with another Dunlap like addition. We're an injury at DE away from Thomson needing to take starter type reps.

I said I wouldn't be surprised if Prince makes the team. Perine got some carries in 2020, had 8 carries in 2021, and that is it at RB, and has returned 2 kicks for 22 total yards in his NFL career, and is entering his 4th year. There is no reason why he would automatically make the team over Prince. And based on numbers, Prince is a slightly better athlete.
