Why Geno Smith fell in the draft
I've seen a couple other posts about this... but this probably deserves it's own thread considering how many hours we've wasted arguing about the guy. This is the first article I've seen theorizing why Geno fell in the draft. Time will tell whether it's accurate.

Andy Reid thinks Alex Smith will be better than all these QBs in the draft. It has nothing to do with anything the Chiefs have done in the past. Pretty sure for Andy Reid personally trading for Smith was the RISKIER move. Now, pressure is on him to win immediately whereas had he gone with a 1st round QB as his starter, he'd be given a few years grace period.
Andy Reid will either be right or wrong about Alex Smith becoming a franchise QB for us. I'm somewhat skeptical, but don't think it's out of the question. Andy Reid's decisions suggest nothing more than he thinks Alex Smith will be a better QB for us than Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, etc. |

I agree. It's not Reid being afraid to 'risk it' on a rookie, it's about him thinking all these kids were not up to the task.
You don't pick a kid you think is subpar just because you need a guy. That's not being 'scared' it's being smart. I wish it were not the case, but there just wasn't a better option this offseason. |

It was so much more than just Sanchez. It was also symbolic of the knowledge that is Chiefs Planet QB guru.

You can't criticize Alex Smith for being a game manager and then say that winning games is the most important criteria for measuring a quarterback's performance. |

Andy Reid and John Dorsey have apparently spent the entire offseason holed up in Pioli's basement pulling bong hits, playing D & D, and scheming on the best way to ensure that the Chiefs will be 8-8 for the next 40 years. If you believe the Genobators, that is the more likely option than there not being a decent QB in this draft.

Strangely enough though, they've abandoned this foundational principle in order to maintain support for the guy they focused their affection on now that he's turned into the type of non-first-round QB that they previously condemned. Cognitive dissonance.

Reid and Dorsey are gamblers, and they are taking a risk with ASmith. They just happen to be master card counters playing blackjack while the Genobators are those guys who put their paycheck on Double Zero in roulette and then wonder why everyone looks at them funny.

I don't care if Geno goes on to be the greatest QB of all time.
CLEARLY, 100% CP overrated him as a draft prospect. He has no comparison to Cam Newton. Cam Newton ended up being a blue chip prospect. Geno wasn't. This was proven on draft day. Will the scouts be right? They were right about Clausen. They were clearly wrong about Russell Wilson. Pertaining to QB's? There are 1000 Geno's and Clausen's who fail and very few Russell's or Brady's. the fact Geno fell to 39 (or whatever) is hilarious given how many posts we wasted on that idiot it still cracks me up ...and CP can't even complain because he was taken in the 2nd ****ing round |

Reid/Dorsey came in to a team with absolute shit at QB and had the #1 pick in an absolute shit draft class... so instead of going with absolute shit they brought in the best guy available do they think he's Tom Brady? I highly doubt it. but they are building a team around him to win some games until they can try and find their Tom Brady and the fact people are mad because they gave up two picks with success rates of around 30% is laughable go research picks 30-40 the past 10 years and report back on what you found go go go go |

CP will be a smarter place when they learn to properly evaluate draft picks.
1st round picks are important because you can't miss often with those... after that? Nope. Success rates for rounds 2-4 just aren't that great. We're talking 30%. 5-7 forget about it. draft picks are important because you can control players for 4 years at a very cheap price and they fill roster spots 30-53 generally you can't go pluck 20 veterans because they cost 4 times more than a 3rd round rookie draft picks are great roster fillers...and some of them turn out to be total steals but draft picks, especially 4-7th rounders...are all lottery picks...if they work out, omg awesome whoa! If they don't...that's what happens to everyone. Go look. |
