If it's only the conference champs that get in, expansion is stupid (unless there is a deal in place that these conferences must have a minimum number of). It's easier to win a ten team conference than a sixteen team conference.

No one is ever, ever, ever, going to be able to, or even try to, force the B1G, PAC 12, and big 12 to expand beyond 10 or 12 if they don't want to, and 16-team conferences are not going to be able to get favorable treatment unless their teams qualify for it on their own merits as an at-large. Besides, it wont be "only the big 4 conference champs can get in, and everyone else is out", everyone has basically acknowledged the legal problems with that by saying a path has to exist for everyone else. We might eventually go to 8, which would then allow 4 auto-bids for the big 4 since the other 4 would be up for grabs, but it wont be this round. If we do have a conference champs format for this round, or a 3+1, it wont be "these specific conferences", it'll be the highest-ranked conference champs, which due to an amazing coincidence, will almost always be the big 4.

I'm very skeptical they'll go beyond that unless ND hops on board for football in 2016.

I agree. Twelve would be the minimum. There's simply no way for the PAC to expand without raiding the Big XII. Hell, their last foray into expansion was a joke.

There's simply too many hints dropping, with the TCU AD shooting off his mouth last week, capped off with Snyder openly speculating on a 12-team schedule yesterday, and Dodds reporting this morning that the new contract will indeed have escalators for expanding to 12, for me to believe a word of this "we're happy at 10" nonsense.

The Big12 and SEC are both voting against the four team playoff being four Conference Champions. They are also wanting strength of schedule to be heavily factored into picking the top four teams as I know last year most of the ten hardest schedules were all Big12 teams and I'm assuming the SEC' is up there too.
The Big12 is also voting against having a Conference Championship game to increase their chances of getting two teams into the playoffs.

No, they aren't. There's nothing to vote on wrt the CCG if they are at 10. If they expand to 12, then we're going to see a CCG.

They know they are going to 12 and still don't want it.

A bunch of football coaches and a few AD's (but no presidents or chancellors) have shot off their mouth about how great the round-robin is, and are throwing lame-ass justifications for why not having a CCG is swell (while bizarrely ignoring that Okie State could have desperately used one last year), but there is no way in hell the Big 12 is going to turn down the millions that would come with a CCG.
I believe their "no CCG" talk as much as I believe they aren't expanding. Once they go to 12, a CCG will happen.
