We play a 3-4 defense. Its alright to have a slow LB in the middle... He would be the one thats most responsible for stopping the run which he can do very well. And he almost single handedly beat Nebraska. He lead the big 12 in tackles, anchored the defense that was second in the nation in the red zone, hes smart, and a great leader... hes the type of guy you want in the middle.

Holy shit, I grew up with Garrett Brown. Didn't realize he'd get signed as a UDFA.

Eh, minimal talent. Not the hardest worker, was always kind of a big galoot. Surprised he even managed to play D-1 football. Watched a number of his games at Minnesota and his play was pretty underwhelming. Nowhere near as strong as someone his size should be.

Yeah, I wouldn't be excited about the signing, but it's just a UDFA deal.

Don't know anything about him. But there was once a QB from Michigan nobody heard of and was drafted pretty low. Now he's one of the two best QBs. Anything can happen. Deron Cherry was signed as a punter and cut from his first training camp.

It does seem like we are missing out on opportunities falling into our lap (both in the draft and UFA signings), doesn't it? I also argued (more like bitched) about the head start last night, and how it seems we are way behind others in the scramble for UFAs.

As the final few picks of the NFL Draft ticked away Saturday afternoon, Garrett Brown didn't stray far from his phone. The Minnesota captain and nose tackle knew it would be ringing shortly.

Fifteen minutes after the draft concluded, Brown got the call he'd been waiting for all his life.

It was from the Kansas City Chiefs and, within hours, the 6-foot-2, 320-pound defensive tackle had signed a two-year, free agent contract with the NFL club. He leaves for Kansas City on Thursday.

"I'm definitely excited," said Brown, a two-time Connecticut Post All-Star at Fairfield Prep who started two years as a nose guard at Minnesota. "It's a dream come true. I'm ready to start a new chapter in my career."

Based on interest from 18 NFL teams and how he stacked up against the other prospects, Brown figured he had a shot at being drafted anywhere after the third round.

Once he went undrafted, Brown and his agent ran through a list of the NFL teams that best suited his services. San Diego was one option. Brown interviewed with the Chargers a week before the draft. But it was Kansas City, Brown said, that showed the most interest and gave him the best opportunity to compete for a roster spot.

The Chiefs were the first team to call. It was a done deal. Brown said he signed at approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday.

"They didn't draft any defensive tackles and they only have three on the team right now," Brown said. "That gives me a good chance. Hopefully, I can make the two-deep and the 53-man roster by the end of August."

Meh, anybody named Brown should sign with Cleveland, I say.

What are the odds that Danario Alexander gets signed? I would hope that if he is healthy the chiefs would sign him. So far it looks like he isn't healthy...

Updates on undrafted Tigers

By Dave Matter

Posted April 24, 2010 at 4:57 p.m.

UPDATE, 10 p.m.: Undrafted Missouri receiver Danario Alexander sent me this text message Saturday evening, a few hours after the conclusion of the NFL draft: "We are still talking to teams trying to find the best situation for me. Whoever we decide on will be getting a player that will add great value to their team, that's for sure."

Alexander and his representation are likely fielding offers between teams that are willing to sign him with the hope that he'll pass a physical by the start of training camp. Having undergone four surgeries on his left knee since the winter of 2008, including the latest in February, it's also likely that some teams took him off their draft board altogether, knowing he wouldn't pass the initial physical.
