Chiefs Peyton Manning to visit Denver TONIGHT to meet with Donks - Page 24

Peyton Manning will be in Denver tonight visiting with the Broncos, according to two NFL sources.

This is getting serious, folks.

Manning, arguably the most decorated free agent in NFL history, has the Broncos on his short list. The long-time Indianapolis Colts quarterback was released earlier this week amid concerns about his neck, a $26 million bonus payment and the team's opportunity to select highly prized quarterback Andrew Luck with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft.

Manning, 36, has been cleared to throw by his neck specialist, Dr. Robert Watkins. One NFL source said Manning will also visit the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins after visiting with the Broncos. A source said Manning would like to make a decision by Tuesday, the first day of free agency.

The Broncos' top brass of John Elway, coach John Fox and general manager Brian Xanders, are currently in Stillwater, Okla., watching the Oklahoma State Pro Day workout that features quarterback Brandon Weeden.

The Broncos have the No. 25 pick in the draft, plus the 25th selection in the second round. Weeden, who turns 29 in October, is considered the second-best passer to Luck in the draft and has been projected to go between the Broncos' top two picks.

Manning will turn 36 in two weeks.

Anyone ever seen the Bill Murray flick 'The Life Aquatic'? Pioli and co. need to fly to Denver armed to the teeth and rescue Peyton from their clutches Steve Zissou style. At some point Pioli would divide his boys up into two teams and Daboll would tear up and say "I'm tired of being on B team." Pioli responds, "you may be on the B team...but you're the B-team leader."

The Denver shtick is weird. He's got no reason to play for a team with a heinous offensive line in a small market that's got jack and s for play makers. Seems like a professional courtesy to elway and a tactic to negotiate higher rates from desperate loosers like the Cardinals. What's weird is how he seems to be whoring out the chiefs. It's been pretty clear KC has opened it's legs to Manning and can pay him more than the Dolphins and Cardinals yet he's avoiding KC like the plague with these sanctioned visits.
