Chris Jones didn't record a sack OR a tackle in the AFCCG.

Why the **** are we extending him, using your logic htis?

Yes, exactly.

Learning a new spot is tough. Looking like you don't belong physically is a little different animal.

Hopefully he develops, but depending on that big of a jump in an all in type season is pretty unideal.

Yeah, so let's give all of our cap money to a DE that had zero sacks in that game and did nothing to help out said secondary. That should change everything.
Demarcus Lawrence would be another good example for you. Before his great season in 2017-2018 he hadn't done that much. But once he has broken out, he is is/will be good for years.

The only concern with Ford are the injuries not so much just having one great season. Expect him to maintain that level of play if not injured.

I'm not expecting a Dee Ford season out of him next year. I'm expecting him to show potential and possibly sit around 6-8 sacks on the season.

Oh i wouldn't go that far. He held the PoA well. He had some decent get up and go at the snap. At the very least he should be a good run defender.

He looked worlds different from Preseason to the end of the season. He showed a lot, and most importantly showed that he can get better.

I think he'll be fine.

Extending Chris Jones isn't going to cost $16M against the 2019 cap and possibly prevent the acquisition of key pieces needed to WIN A SUPER BOWL IN 2019.

That's the arguement, that's always been the argument. If and when they franchise tag Chris Jones, you'll have a point. Even then, Chris Jones doesn't have a lengthy career history of being non-existent for whole seasons and then getting hurt.

I never once stated that his injuries weren't a concern. Now you're making up an argument. I'e said repeatedly that the tag is what's best to help determine if he can consistently stay healthy. He's been on-again-off-again.

If the goal is to win a SB in 2019 then why wouldn't you load up on talent instead of gutting it?

The idea is that paying Ford on the tag sucks up such a chunk of the cap that you can't go sign anyone else. Whereas a long term deal with (insert player here) would be able to be stretched out.

They can still do that even with Ford on the tag if they want id imagine.
