How does Doyle's decision of transferring affect the scholarship situation?

I've never seen a kid anywhere transfer so quickly.

A basketball redshirt? Does that happen at Kansas?

I think Teahan and Morningstar were both, but I could be wrong.

It seems to be a little used tactic in basketball vs. how they use it in football - but more recently, there have been several KU players take a redshirt year. More than I can ever remember taking one anyway.

Unfortunately he saw the writing on the wall. Has some talent if he can put it together but Tharpe played will in Europe and Rio looks to be a guard of similar skill set. Best of luck.

Not sure if serious, but I will play along:

KU has a pretty juicy history (recent history) when it comes to redshirts. Self gets a few one-and-done players, but seems to like getting guys that will develop and contribute in their JR and SR years.

The Doyle thing seems like a familiar story – recruited as a backup plan, our “Plan A” guy came along, so we don’t need him and/or ask him to redshirt. Speculation is that Doyle was insurance in case Anrio Adams didn’t qualify.

Under Self, the following guys have redshirted (IIRC): Travis Releford, Connor Teahen, Brady Morningstar, Tyrel Reed, Mario Little. The Releford situation was tough because Releford thought he was ready to play major minutes, and his little brother Trevor was a good recruit – it took some convincing to get Travis to stay, and him not getting minutes in his first couple years was the speculated reason Trevor didn’t come to KU.

Royce Woolridge was the last guy I can recall who turned down the redshirt idea and elected to transfer. I think Quintrell Thomas was in the same boat.

Mario LIttle redshirted as a junior the same season (09-10) as Releford.
