Off Season Lets Talk Guns
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.
Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon? Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware? Part 2: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=293623 Last edited by Bearcat; 07-28-2015 at 06:06 PM.. |

yea I'm kicking myself now for not picking up some of the PMC ammo for ~0.30 per round back around thanksgiving. Oh well about the only one I really kick myself for is not buying 9mm since I didn't have a 9mm pistol at the time!

Our bullets showed up yesterday - we now have all the components we need to get reloading. Our gunsmith buddy is going to come out tomorrow to get us set up making 9mm and .40. By tomorrow night I should be sitting on a couple thousand rounds of both.

Do you have a digital powder thrower? If not the most time you spend is with measuring out the powder.

Shot about 500 .40 pistol rounds and 300 .223 rifle, during some really good live fire training exercises. Was on the clock too! It's amazing some of be things I've been able to do while being payed. The class was a week long, lots of force on force training, mostly with airsoft weapons all active shooter scenarios, schools and office buildings. Fun times

You are looking at about .14-.17 a shot.
Primers a .02/piece, powder will be about .02/piece, and the bullets will run anywhere from .05-.06/piece (lead) min. on up. Depending on what brass you get (if you kept your empties) that will add a little on, too. |

We can't find the components around here or online to even seriously reload right now anyway. Powder isn't too difficult, but primers and bullets are a pain in the ass to find. |

I made bullets today. Woohoo!
Very involved, meticulous process. Can't imagine what a pain it would be without the tricked-out Dillon press. One thing that's neat - we ordered bullets from a company called Bayou Bullets - they're coated with a dry lube which makes them green. So completed rounds in the brass cases look like festive Christmas rounds. And on an unrelated note, I when I replaced the gas block on my AR a few months ago I didn't tighten it down sufficiently. It had come lose and I would have been looking at a major failure soon. The first symptom of this problem was the breech not staying open after the last round fired - good think I had my gunsmith check it out. |
