Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

Ironic how we knocked Brady out in the first game, only to see Cassel's abilities show cased for the rest of the season...and then we trade for him. Funny how things work out sometimes.

Scott is the man! If we still have our 1st pick he is a freaklng stud! A young QB that has a year under his belt as a starter. Good job!

I can only say that I'm happy we didn't give up the farm to bring these guys in.

I don't like the deal because I don't believe that Matt GrCassel is all that good.

New England would have cleaned our clock even if we had some defense.

Almost 100% of NFL Quarterbacks have been given a chance to start, even if they weren't very good in practice. I'm guessing that less than 1% of QBs drafted in the 7th round were given a chance to start. At almost any given time in the NFL, about 50% of starting QBs were first round QBs. And again, many of those earned starting jobs (i.e. Grossman, Leftwich, etc...) even if they weren't very good.

You are bastardizing statistics to prove a point. Of course first rounders will succeed with higher probability, but you leave out the point that every single first rounder is given a chance to start and the patience to develop, whereas almost every single seventh rounder must prove BEYOND a reasonable doubt that they're gonna be good starters and they must prove that within their first 8 starts.

The reason why the numbers are that high is because first round QBs are given a ton more opportunities than lower round QBs are given. You are blaming 7th rounders for not making a Super Bowl when many of them were never given a fair opportunity to compete for a starting job.

Just came in and saw this. Have not read the thread.

To this point, I've liked what I've seen out of Pioli and Haley, but I'm torn on this. On paper, we have our QB of the future. In reality, Cassel had Moss and Welker to throw to, along with a pretty solid line to work behind. He isn't going to have that here, especially if Gonzalez and Waters get their wish and get traded.

I'm optimistic, but I will take a wait and see with Cassel. Pioli sure is setting himself up early to be majorly cheered or ridiculed.
