Quitting Smoking
Both the wife and I need to quit, and since we've tried to quit at the same time before, and THAT REALLY SUCKED, I took the plunge first.

Haven't had a cigarette since last night. I've quit several times in the past, sometimes for up to three months - quitting ain't the problem - it's staying quit that kicks my ass.

Any advice on non-smoking methods/products or encouragement would be appreciated.

Hang in there fellas. You guys are saving a shitton of dough by not buying the damn things. If it is starting to get to you, buy something nice for yourself to make up for it. that may help stave off the cravings. Best of luck men!

I think it is a physiological addiction complete with withdrawal symptoms. I've seen it compared to heroin addiction.

My cravings have been long gone. I can imagine that an extremely stressful situation could bring them back but other than that I think they're gone forever.

I hope they are. I think different people have different levels of addiction. I've seen guys smoke only while drinking then put them down. But most get truly hooked. Alcohol is very similar in its effect. Some people can have an occasional drink with dinner while others can't leave it alone.

I've just tried to quit smoking again for the (who's counting?) time. I'm hitting 35 this week and it's got me thinking about quiting really hard. I've been smoking since High School and I've quit for a stretch of 6 months in the past.

I'm trying to go cold turkey and it's been 3 days so far. I've tried the gum in the past, tasted like crap. I've never tried the patches but I hear you can have horrible nightmares from them.

I've been soooo irritable lately and been trying to hold back about snapping to family and co-workers. I have to stop for good this time. My will power is strong but is it stronger than 6 months like the last time?

Ugh! I'm getting headaches now too!

The patches worked great for me. it was my first attempt using them after trying and failing numerous times using other methods. I followed the instructions all the way through. That seemed to be important. I know others who failed with the patch but they all tried to short-cut the process.

Good luck to you, it is surely worth the effort.

It does if you replace the craving with revulsion. My hubby cannot stand the smell or sight of cigarettes. It literally makes him want to vomit. He had a pack a day habit. It can be done.
