*****OFFICIAL 2022 Border War Hoops and HATE Thread

Alright y’all! We got a game this Saturday. The reigning National Champion Jayhawks are as self-righteous as ever and coming to Columbia, where the Tigers look like they could have their best coached team since the Obama administration. Self is still figuring out his rotations (to a painful degree), and in Columbia anything can happen.

This thread can also be used to talk football and how this rivalry is oh so dead, which is why a bowl game that is not happening has arguments spilling over into Mizzou threads, KU threads, college football threads, and twitter and facebook wars all over my feed.

Join me and let’s all talk about how this game doesn’t matter anymore and all angrily ask why I’m missing asterisks in the thread title.

But continue to cry about it. It’s fun to watch.
Oh, I think KU will be just fine without playing MU in a bowl game. Unlike MU, interest in the program is at the highest it has been in a decade and a half and the fans will turn out regardless. It’s really MU that could have used the fan push here after another .500 season but Coach Drink was too scared to take the risk of any kind of loss on his record.

Something tells me Self wasn’t too concerned with KU losing to MU basketball at any point in the last decade.

Christian Braun played a huge role in humiliating Missouri last year. You can tell it was killing him to not have a hand in the humiliation they suffered again this year.

What a dumb statement. If Coach Drink was scared to take a loss on his record he wouldn’t be coaching at Mizzou in the SEC, the best football conference in America. He could have taken other jobs, in much more winnable conferences.

As far as Kansas fans ‘turning out’, we’ll see if that 6 game losing streak momentum to close the season carries into next year . . . . . .

And as far as Burrito Bill goes, whatever his reason was doesn’t really matter, he ducked and dodged a Mizzou program for half a decade (as did the football team) that was more than willing to play a regular series. KU didn’t want to play Mizzou. That’s fine. Your choice. But it is what it is.

I'd imagine his long-term professional goals have nothing to do with coaching at Mizzou. He may be a coward, but he's not an idiot.

As noted earlier, unlike Mizzou in football, KU's aspirations in basketball each season are to win a national championship. Everything we do is meant to ready the team for achieving that in March/April. Wasting one of our few non-conference road games (and in fact, this is our only one this year) on an embarrassing disaster of a program is not worth it to further that goal. If it was up to me, we'd never have restarted this series at all (until/unless Mizzou got back to some kind of relevance).

Now while it may be fun to clown on Mizzou once a year like this, we didn't really develop or learn anything about this team today by winning a game against a Mizzou team that was clearly outclassed and outmatched. We'll learn far more next week against Indiana.

Does anybody really care about the Red Sox/Yankees outside of Red Sox and Yankees fans? Most are just fed up with it.

I have no idea what his long term professional goals are, but if there’s any fanbase who would know what a cowardly coach looks like, I trust the opinion of Kansas’ fans.

As far as your second paragraph, what a load of horse crap. I looked at your early non-con schedule from last year. Did playing St. John’s (finished 17–15 last year) on the road last year in December prepare you for winning the national Championship in March/April? Don’t act like Kansas normally only schedules good to elite teams for their non-con early season road games. You also had mighty Colorado on there as well, but that game was cancelled for some reason. As Judge Judy famously use to say, ‘don’t pee down my leg and tell me it’s raining’.

Not really, that was too easy and I would have aimed higher there as well (although St. John's under Mike Anderson has been miles better than the disgrace that Mizzou basketball has become over the past decade).

Beyond dealing with the road atmosphere itself, KU is going to really get nothing out of a game like this against an outmatched team that defended ball screens worse than any team KU has faced and will face all season. Continually delivering such beatdowns every year serves very little purpose other than maximum embarrassment. That can be an end in itself I guess but it isn't going to help when the games really matter.

First off, St John's was the team they were matched with under the Big East/Big 12 Battle. But they were also a competitive team.

And Colorado had a really solid team just the year before and they win 20+ games every year. I'm not sure why you're comparing them to Missouri.

Equating dodging a bowl matchup to dodging a job? Even you have to admit that's just a bit of a reach.

Oh, and speaking of that guy...

Holy hell, that's funny.

He sucks. Your own fans admit it. Leipold does not suck. That's the reality of our situations. I understand why you want to continue bringing up the past, but the failures of Beaty and others have nothing to do with what Leipold's building, just like it doesn't help Drinky that Missouri had some pretty good years under Pinkel.

You keep implying that KU will fall back to a 2-3 win team next year. Good luck with that. They return practically everybody that matters, plus some key injured players. The offense will be as good or better and they'll attack the portal to improve the defense. And for the first time in a long while, they actually have something to sell recruits.

This KU football team is likely a 8 win team if not for the injuries. Leipold will build more depth as we move forward so that key injuries won't sting as much. KU's football has a much brighter future than MU at this time.
