Chiefs kicker is suspect in bar fight

BRIEFING: HUDSON, WIS.

River Falls police are investigating an altercation Sunday morning at a downtown bar involving Lawrence J. Tynes, kicker with the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to the department's records, 27-year-old Tynes is a suspect in a battery that took place at Boomer's Bar on Elm Street at about 1 a.m. Sunday. River Falls authorities declined Tuesday to release details on the episode.

Chiefs representative Bob Moore said that nothing happened Sunday morning that warrants an official comment. "It's my understanding that there were no arrests involved," he said.

Ted Roughton, owner of Boomer's Bar, would not talk about Sunday morning's events but did say that players and fans often mingle in his tavern.

In a separate incident, two other Chiefs players, Saou-saolii Siavii Jr. and Gregory Wesley, were arrested the same morning on suspicion of disorderly conduct in a Minneapolis hotel. Siavii, a defensive tackle, and Wesley, a safety, were taken to the Hennepin County jail and released later Sunday.

The Chiefs are in River Falls for their 15th annual training camp, held at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

They wanted to file charges but couldn't.
Witnesses say L.T. tried to kick the agressor, but missed wide left.

Chiefs kicker charged in bar fight

By ADAM TEICHER

The Kansas City Star

RIVER FALLS, Wis. _ Chiefs kicker Lawrence Tynes was charged this morning on one felony count of substantial battery and one misdemeanor count of misdemeanor battery in connection with an altercation at a River Falls bar early Sunday.

Tynes made an appearance in Pierce County Circuit Court in Ellsworth, Wis., this morning. He signed a $15,000 signature bond and was released. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 11.

The substantial battery charge carries a maximum penalty of a $10,000 fine or jail sentence of 3 ˝ years or both. The misdemeanor charge carries a maximum penalty of a $10,000 fine or nine month in jail or both.

According to a River Falls police report, Tynes engaged in an altercation with two people at Boomer’s Bar about 1:07 a.m. on Sunday. A witness alleged that Tynes struck a bar patron in the face, according to the report.

He reportedly later struck a bouncer, identified as Brian J. Roquette of River Falls, in the face. River Falls Police Capt. John Stapleton said medical reports showed Roquette suffered a broken nose in the scuffle.

Tynes was not charged until police received the medical reports.

“Under Wisconsin statute, if there’s a broken bone, that makes it a felony,’’ Stapleton said. “At that time, we had no proof there was aggravated battery. So it would have been a misdemeanor and unless there’s extenuating circumstances, we don’t take people to jail for a misdeameanor.

“Once the investigation was complete and the medical reports showed a broken nose, we sent the reports to the district attorney’s office and he filed the charges.’’

No one else was charged in the incident.

At almost the same time on Sunday morning in Minneapolis, Chiefs defensive tackle Junior Siavii and safety Greg Wesley were arrested for an incident at a hotel. Siavii was charged with one count of disorderly conduct and one count of fifth-degree assault. Both charges are misdemeanors. Wesley was charged with one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Nice knowing ya Tynes.

What the **** is wrong with these guys? Do they have a self-destructive gene? Cause hitting someone really accomplishes something, doesn't it.

So when a kicker gets in a fight, does the punter or back-up QB have to the hold the guy down?

Does cartilidge in the nose count as bone? We need to see those X-rays.
