*OFFICIAL*: Who should the Chiefs pick in the 1st Round?

Assuming your pick is available (try to be realistic), either at 20 OR after a TRADE-DOWN (or a TRADE-UP?) in the first round, who should the Chiefs select with their first pick in the 2006 draft?

Poll to follow shortly.....

I simply can't choose one, because i'm so high on a small number of prospects likely to be available.

I guess, at a PUSH, i'd say Tye Hill. Cromartie is JUST behind him, though, and I mean right behind. Then it drops off a bit and one of Jason Allen/Donte Whitner/Jimmy Williams/Manny Lawson/Kamerion Wimbley would be a fine choice.

Outside of those guys, i'm probably not going to be THRILLED (unless it's an unexpected steal). Guys like Jonathan Joseph I wouldn't mind at all, but I just wouldn't be excited about it.

20, even 30, THIS year is still a good spot to pick a great prospect.

You have Hill and Cromartie ahead of Allen, Williams, and Lawson?

Yes.

Allen I like a lot (more than most, it would also seem) but not more than Hill and Cromartie.

Williams I also like, but his confidence is borderline arrogance and i'm not as high on him as I was.

Lawson is one of my favorite players in the draft but i'm not sold on him in the 4-3, though i'd like to be. I have my doubts and would love to be proven wrong.

do people realize that cromartie didn't even play last year?

the rust for being off a year
leftovers from the acl injury
lack of playing experience in general (has never been a starter)
stepping up from college to the NFL

i don't see how anyone can expect for cromartie to contribute in any meaningful way this year.

If he's still rusty and not 100%, then can you imagine how sick he could be?

He did start one game, and played in 25.

In fairness, every rookie has to do this, and i'd say Cromartie's tools give him a good opportunity to make that next step.

You make it sound a lot worse than it is.

Bottom line, he's a very gifted athlete with limited experience and room for technique improvement.

That describes a number of guys in this draft.

Do people forget or just not realize that - for example - Jonathan Joseph missed most of 2004 with a broken bone and is also a very inexperienced player?

Cromartie is not alone.

If either bunkley or justice make it to us; I think it is a no brainer; however, neither probably will so I'll say Manny. Pass rush is more important than coverage since the rule change.
