Pollard just continues to flat-out amaze me.

My TiVo caught NFL Replay of our game vs. the Browns, so I was watching it while doing some web browsing.

Half-way through the third quarter, Pollard recovered a fumble on a kick return.

I watched the replay in slow slo-motion. As the returner was coming toward him, Pollard was tied up by a blocker. Pollard spun to the outside, peeling off the defender and continued his spin back inside (virtually coming backwards at the returner, now facing the same direction as the returner and then came up on his back as he was slowed by Page) and then stripped the ball out from behind.

But it wasn't in his arms, it kind of floated in front of his chest as he fell, so he got it between one arm and his chest and brought his legs up as he fell. AND fought off the invading arm of a Cleveland player who was falling on top of him.

Friggin' amazing athleticism and focus. Time and time again, he brought in amazing, impossible, big plays like this last year. It's going to be awesome to watch this guy this year.

The SS I would compare Pollard too is John Lynch (without the cheap shots), he will just lay you out. I would compare Page to Reed (like it was previously said, hes a ballhawking safty). I'm definatly not saying they will be as good as them, thats just who I would compare them too. They both have really good potential, I just hope they live up to it.

John Lynch was a converted linebacker. Athletically, they aren't very similar at all, but they do have similar playing styles, i.e. balls out.

Lynch has never played linebacker. He played quarterback at first for Stanford but then switched to safety his final two years at Stanford. He has played safety his entire career in the NFL.

He most definitely played linebacker early in his NFL career.

Q. I’ve been a Bucs fan for a long time...were you frustrated early on in your career when they tried to make you a linebacker?

A. I certainly was. They weren’t really trying to make me a linebacker...they were trying to find a way to get me on the field. For that, I was appreciative, but I would have much rather been playing safety. But as a young guy in this league, you’ve got to earn your way on the field. It didn’t happen right away, but I stuck with it and all the hard work paid off.

He is still not a "converted linebacker" as you said he was. He played safety the final two years of his career at Stanford and despite this failed attempt to move him to linebacker he has been a safety his whole career.

Ed Reed's a FS. Pollard's going to be our Bob Sanders SS.
Dude, I was reading the first page and thought about posting until I read thisd - well put.

Did a little search...

Quote:
A little bit of googling reveals that their 40 times were very similar (low 4.6 to high 4.5s). Based on 40 times I don't think you could say one was quicker than the other. Page seemed to do a little better in the short shuttle and cone drills, so he might be a little more quick with respect to cutting and start-stops.
Old Thread:
http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showt...=164719&page=2

John Lynch when he came out of Stanford ran a 4.64 40 at the combine.
http://www.sportingnews.com/experts/.../20050307.html

It says that Jarrad Page ran a 4.63 at the combine & 4.51 at Pro day. His 20 yard dash was 2.72, & 10 yard dash was 1.59. He measured out at 6'1, 239.
http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings...php?pyid=15605

Pollard ran a 4.57 40 at the combine & 4.62 at Pro Day. 20 yard dash was 2.67, & 10 yard dash was 1.58. Measured out at 6'2, 224.

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings...php?pyid=12594

Many here think that Pollard is the heavy hitter, while Page is suited for coverage, but they seem to be pretty comparable in those numbers, granted their lateral movement is going to be a large factor, as well as stop start, but I don't think it's any coincidence that you have Pollard coming out of the B10 having a more polished run support skills, and Page coming from the Pac10, w/ better coverage skills. How many of you on here knew that Page was actually bigger (weight -wise) than Pollard? Of course Pollard is an inch taller and could end up bulking up and be bigger.

Lynch can not cover for 2 shits these days, but he wasn't horrible back in his day. I also wonder how much he isn't encouraged to play run 1st no matter what usually, given they have Champ, and with Bly on the other side it doesn't seem like a huge gamble to have him cheat the line 90% of the time.

I honestly must be slipping. I still thought westly was still around. My judgement for pollard will be served when he actually starts playing at saftey. I saw alot of the big 10 when he was there and I wasn't overly impressed. Other than when he jackhammered that gopher

Highly doubtful he beats either of the young guys out for a spot.

Especially since the team doesn't seem to want to keep him. The biggest problem with Wesley is that he doesn't suck. He's still a good player when he wants to be. If he played worse it'd be easy to kick him to the curb.

Given his new contract size, I don't know what his signing bonus was, but it may not be worth cutting Wesley and letting him walk. He can still fill in as a backup, play special teams. If Denver is interested in him, force their hand to acquire the guy?

I'd take Denver's 4th for him.
