Where does eveyone stand on smoking bans?

I think it should be up to the owner, and would even be willing to have it up to the owner if you have to be 21 to enter. City wide is bullshit IMO

We used to have a great Cigar lounge here called EL Gaucho, They had a special room where you had your own hemidor if you wanted..

The smoking ban here completely ended that..

BS if you ask me!

I rarely went to bars because I couldn't stand the smell of smoke. It actually opens up more options for me at lunch.

We all give up certain rights every day. For example, you can't drive at any speed you want. I own my car, right? Can't I use it however I'd like?

Public welfare demands reasonable speed limits. The same argument can be made Re: smoking in bars/restaurants. Secondhand smoke is a health hazard, and when a smoker lights up he/she takes away the ability of those around himself/herself to breath clean air. Cigarettes themselves aren't being banned. Smokers can still buy them and use them...just not in certain enclosed spaces where others that might not want to suck down carcinogens would be exposed.

I don't understand the "rights" argument very well, Mr. RedNeckRaider.

I mean, you still have the "right" to smoke your tail off at home, correct? How is it a "right" to gas your poor neighbors? You have the "right" to stick a croquet mallet up your ass, paint your pecker purple, and walk around naked in your own house, but society has the "right" to curtail that sort of activity in public, do they not?

Ok, that is stupid. If the business is predicated on smoking, you should be able to smoke in there.

I wonder how that will affect the cigar shops here? Did they get an exclusion?

Totally agree. When I'm in a town with no-smoking laws I go out frequently. When I'm in a place that doesn't have them I stay home. It's basically the reverse of the economic argument that many smokers and business owners like to bring up.

This is where I see the difference. Smokers can't keep it to themselves. It's physically impossible.

If I really liked a certain kind of drink, but part of drinking it meant I was spitting it out all over the people at the tables around me how long do you think it would last before a smoker told me to cut it out?

I abhor smoking.. But the businesses should get to decide..

If anything give tax discounts to restaurants/bars that go nonsmoking.. Something nominal to make up the difference of the two crowds..

With that being said. I think it's great. it will be 2 years in April since the ban began here, and I don't miss my clothes stinking like smoke when I get home.

I went to Florida in December, and some asshole left his lit cigarette in his ashtray while he began to eat (this was an outside eating establishment). but he moved the ash tray out of his own way to the side, which blew all the ****ing smoke in my face while I was eating. I smoked for 20 years, and I never did shit like that. I was always courteous while others were eating.

did you try asking him to put it out or move it?

i'll tell you as a smoker i feel as though you don't want my money if you don't want to let me smoke. why go to a bar, and be forced outside, when i can smoke on my couch at home? before any smoker nazis make a comment, if you don't like smoke i tell you to do the same. just as i don't support nonsmoking establishments, feel free to not support smoking establishments.

as for the ban, its crap. its not fair to smokers or the business owners, to force them to enforce rules that are bad for business.

So I can same the same for noise pollution when somebody is talking loud or you do not know how to control your brat in public??? If we are banning smoking, then there should be fines for noise pollution when out in public...
