Vernon Davis

Just got kicked off the field by Mike Singletary for sitting on the bench. Way to go coach!

When you intentionally comit a personal foul (slapping a player on the opposing team) then you need to hit the showers. I think it was a good call by Singletary.

It'd be nice to see a coach that had his "star" players afraid of losing their jobs.

Eh I dunno, I'm not sure that kind of stuff works in todays game. A player with a big contract has leverage, if they they get rid of him they eat that and he likely ends up on a better team where guys who "dont give a shit" generally do well on good teams.

That's nice in theory, but in most realities a real star player can get your coach fired in the snap of a finger.

Maybe a few quarterbacks or other franchise players have the kind of leverage, but that's hardly common. And Vernon Davis is far from a star player.

Sure he's not but I think that's as much the 49ers fault as his fault, they haven't developed any receivers either because they have nothing at QB.

You think any sane gm would take Vernon Davis' side over Mike Singletary?
How about LJ?

If that star player had the numbers to back up his play. Davis doesnt have that luxury right now. Also, this is Singletary, i am sure he could give a shit if they fired him for that. He rather not coach something like that anyways.

Is Vernon Davis a star, no he also is a TE which shouldn't warrant a top 10 pick. This is as much the 49ers fault as his fault they're both to blame they haven't developed him or really done much to make that pick work, and he's been on a horrendous team his whole career so he doesn't care.

At the same time I don't think as a coach you should act like your brain fell out and rant about Vernon Davis like he's a horrible human being.

If he's showing you up, playing for himself, committing stupid penalties, etc...I think you definitely SHOULD rant about him. I think the entire team should know, and the press help hold you accountable, that players in your system are going to do things your way and help the team.

Mecca has always been a huge Vernon Davis fan because he has physical tools that are off the charts. He's going to be more willing to look past character issues than he when he talks about guys like LJ.

Like I said that's nice in theory.....in 2008 doing that is just as likely to get you a whole team of players going "you know what **** this guy" than them fearing for their jobs and needing to play better.

Calling players out in public and making a big scene isn't a positive thing to do with todays player.

LOL..I wouldn't use a top 10 pick on him....but I think they have much greater problems than Vernon Davis.
