UPS.
unloded trucks for $8/hr for about 1 month after high school. I was in great shape from playing football, track (discus and shot put) etc...and that job kicked my butt. non-stop work out for 4 hours. Non......stop. ...ok, well, there is a '10 minute' break in there.

As far as worst jobs, I consider myself lucky to say that I never had a job that I just hated. Hmmm...probably the least fun, I suppose, was crawling into a school boiler at 16 to clean out all the crud with a wire brush. |

I actually liked bucking bales for some reason. The pay wasn't good, but...
My worst jobs had to be roofing and when I worked at Sweetheart doing lids. You stand next to the 300 degree lids coming out of the oven and load/unload them on narrow shelves...with a cotton rag to protect your hands. The first week I had burns from finger tip to bicep. |

My worse job was at Schneider Bailey in midtown. They sold aftermarket AC systems for cars. The owner was a total dick.

I worked at the Millers woods baseball complex in south Johnson County the summer I finished high school. Anyway I worked in the batting cages and my job was to fill up the pitching machine with the rubber batting cage baseballs. It was hot as hell and I couldn't leave my post unless it wasn't busy which was almost never. Sometimes to break the monontony I would **** with some of the people batting by reving up the machine to pitch 100mph. It was funny as hell to see the astonished look on some peoples faces as they had no clue it was me messing with them. Kind of an evil thing to do.
The worst job literally put my life at risk. When I was in college I worked a lot of overnight security jobs. Usually it was a piece of cake as I could study, do my rounds and watch movies all night. I wanted to make some extra cash so I got offered this temporary armed post at this textile factory for almost double what I was making. What I wasn't told was that the textile factory was in a shitty part of west Dallas and the reason they needed some armed security guards was because the factory had recently laid off a bunch of employees and the employees later returned to shoot up the place. Luckily nothing happened the 2 or 3 weeks that I worked there but I was on edge the entire time.

Worked shift work at a fiberglass insulation plant in McPherson during the summers when I was in college. Outstanding pay, but it was pretty tough. Worked 6am-6pm for a few days straight, then a few days off, then a few more days working 6pm-6am. The ovens that melt the glass were always running at around 3000°, so it was very very hot in the plant. And the fiberglass insulation would get in your pores because you were sweating so much, the itch would be unbearable for the first few weeks. And every once in a while, we would have to do an oven cleanout. Which required us to bundle up head to toe and crawl inside the ovens and scrape off the baked crap on the oven walls with a hand jackhammer. It was like being inside a ventilation shaft that was about 140°. Hot, dark, and claustrophobic. Awful awful work. But it was incredible motivation to finish college.

Quaker Wheat Germ plant in Manhattan, KS in August. Basically it's a giant warehouse with a 30 foot long 10 foot diameter oven. You dump three kinds of 100lb bags of wheat germ into a hopper that's up on a platform just below the ceiling. To keep the hopper full you dump a bag every 30 seconds or less which means you have to pick it up off the pallet, carry it about 10 feet, put it beside the hopper, cut it open, then pick it up at almost arm's length to dump it in.
Hot as hell, dust in the air all day, and one 30 minute break for lunch. I lasted a couple of days before I decided it was better being broke. |

Lol. That place was brutal. Get there – whistle blows….and it’s non-stop (aside from that 10 minute break) for 4 hours. Trailers were so hot in the summer you almost had to stay kneeling because if you stood up it was so hot you nearly passed out. The trailers were translucent – which made them feel like a green house. You could not stay hydrated at that place. $8/hr. lol. F that.

The second worst job I ever had was being a janitor in a KC hospital. One of my jobs was to empty the autoclave waste in the lab. An autoclave is a big machine that looks like a torpedo tube. It's a high pressure, high heat machine that is used to kill bacteria and germs. They would take all these biopsies, and blood samples and body parts and god knows what else and steam heat them, then throw it in the trash. Nasty Nasty Nasty.
That was bad, and the infamous brown washcloth that would end up in the dirty laundry was bad too... gag from the stench.... |

It was a fun job because its on a lake, boats, girls in bikinis, drunks coming back giving you the rest of their beer for us to take home and us putting it in the cooler in the shed. And the entire staff were all of my closest friends growing up. Had pontoon parties after work and would stay out at night on the lake. couldnt have had a better 4 summers. |
