Morgan practicing at FS...Finally

Hope he can pull it off.

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/11...ensive_mirage/

MORE TWISTS TO CHIEFS SECONDARY
November 3rd – 11:45 AM

Another practice at Arrowhead and even more is revealed about the Chiefs safety situation - which seems to be changing by the minute.

S Jon McGraw was held out of work again this afternoon. In his absence, Mike Brown and DaJuan Morgan lined up at strong and free safety. Filling in behind Morgan was CB Maurice Leggett.

Newly acquired DB Travis Daniels, who has NFL experience at safety, worked with the cornerbacks today. Part of that reason might have to do with the absence of CB Mike Richardson, who had been playing the team’s nickel position in recent weeks. There is no news from the team as to whether Richardson is injured, ill or has been released.

Other news - WR Chris Chambers is wearing #11, while Daniels wears #34.

So...
Last year in camp, I paid some attention to Morgan. Wanted to see what the rookie looked like. He played soft, took terrible angles, and missed tackles.

This year in camp, I followed up by watching him again, and while it seemed he had gotten marginally better, I still didn't see a playmaker (or even a front-line type of player, really).

The other game this year that he got extended playing time, i didn't really pay any attention to him, so when I read that folks thought he had a good game, I thought to myself that maybe he had grown into his role a little bit more and improved.

...like hell...

I watched Morgan all day today, and he's horrible.

He's Charmin soft. He's often the guy standing right by a pile, so watching on TV, it looks like he was in good position to be the next guy, but the fact is he is VERY tentative, looks afraid to take on backs, and always a step late to make the hit. In short, he looked like a pussy, by NFL standards.

His angles are still horrible. Whether it's due to his tentativeness, or his inability to realize that if a guy is running, by the time you get to him he'll be somewhere else, I don't know. But I know that he was so often out of position to make plays that I was amazed he was on the field.

Finally...he tackles like Derrick Johnson. Just like Johnson, once he finds a guy with the ball, he likes to either hit them and allow them to run by, or actually use his arms, and drop quickly to his belly, in the hopes that his downward momentum will pass to the ballcarrier.

Can he get better? I don't know. I know that if a guy is afraid to hit, he's probably always going to be afraid to hit. But maybe I was reading things wrong...that's just how he looked out there. My buddy who was with me barely follows the Chiefs, so after a couple of quarters of watching him, I told him to watch a few plays and tell me what he thought. His words:"He looks like he's playing like a cornerback."
I couldn't have agreedmore.

Actually, I wasn't really impressed with him today, quite to be honest. Just seemed like he was scared to make a hit or something.

Yeah, today he was horrible.

But he wasn't any worse that the old ****s we've been running out there.

I'd still rather give him some PT and see if he gets it, because he's never going to "get it" on the bench.

Translation: People I don't like see potential in him, therefore, I want him to fail.

Follow up post by Laz: All of you guys want Cassel to fail

Response to stupid post by Laz: No, we want him to succeed, but he's a fifth year player and doesn't seem capable of improving. But keep treating him like a rookie.

See...I think he WAS worse than the old ****s.

Brown may be slow, but he brings wood.
And honestly, I don't think McGraw has been a weakness this year.

Just tomake sure, I was not saying Brown is good.
Just that he has been better this year than what I saw from Morgan today.

I've always wondered why everyone was high on Morgan. After watching him play yesterday, it only confirmed my previous beliefs.

Dude is ****ing soft. Not a good tackler, seems to shy away from contact. He gets moved out of the way by everyone. He's fast. That's about it. I was hoping we had a playmaker in him....but i doubt he will ever amount to shit. He doesn't play like a football player. He isn't tough.
