Home security question

I like to lock our bedroom door. We have a two story house and I figure if someone breaks in I might not hear them, however if they want to get to my family (my small toddler sleeps in there with us) getting through the bedroom door should wake me up and give me a fighting chance. My wife says I'm crazy. I figure if nothing it's at least a deterrent. What do you guys think? Am i crazy?

They have gone up over the last two years....a lot. Right now they are $1500 - $2000 without any of the toys you can get for them, rail mounts, night vision, lazers and other accessories. You can be into that thing $2500 to $2800, depending what you want to do to it.

Meth heads aren’t after anyone in particular, they’re after whatever they can steal, sell and buy their next high with.
I’ve even heard of them stealing condenser coils out of air conditioners right in broad daylight so they can sell it for the copper.

if my bedroom door's locked, it means the action is going on inside the room, not outside.

it's not locked very often.

if someone tried to break through the door, it might give you enought time to react.
For me, it would give me enough time to uncork about 6 rounds; and the broken/attempted door break down would probably help my self-defense case.

What are safety slugs? I mean, the name sounds obvious, but I have never heard of or seen these. What are the benefits?

They're designed specificallly not to go through walls, doors, floors, refrigerators, etc. Upon impact with a solid surface, they basically disintegrate. But they still do massive tissue damage to a person.

It'a good idea to keep them loaded in your "go-to" weapon.

On the day of my little incident, I did have them loaded in my go-to weapon. Unfortunately, in my awoken-by-the-alarm-on-4-hours-sleep condition, I grabbed the non-go-to weapon instead.

Life is series of learning experiences. I learned a lot that day.

IIRC Denver Chief was the first to bring them up here.
What they are is a bullet made of shot suspended in a gel that is encased in a copper jacket. The copper jacket holds the shot and gel in a bullet shape while in flight until it impacts something solid. Then it sheds the outer jacket and releases the shot and gel into the target. Because of this it transfers all of its energy into the target instead of over penetrating and just poking a hole in it. Which means it has loads of stopping power but is a lot less likely to blow a hole in an intruder, through the wall behind them and possibly into a loved one on the other side of the wall.
Also because the bullet is so much lighter than lead the powder charge is much smaller meaning there is considerably less recoil making it much easier to pull off additional shots should they be needed.
When I was looking in to a small .357 Magnum for my CCW it was because I planned to run Glaser Safety Bullets. Otherwise a magnum penetrates so much it would be more likely to injure a bystander and wouldn't necessarily end the situation that called for pulling and firing a CCW.

If it makes you feel safe,go for it,we've been broken into twice(both at previous residences) and when we built the new place we added door alarms with window breaks and motion detectors and also have 3 dogs among other security measures.I sleep like a baby.
