Football Landry getting too big to play Safety? - Page 3

Recent pictures posted on free agent SS LaRon Landry's Twitter feed show Landry to be extremely muscle bound.
They can be viewed at the link below. We're speculating, but Landry has appeared to pump so much iron with his upper body that he might be too heavy or bulging to stay at safety. Landry also passed on Achilles' surgery after the season, even though it was recommended by several doctors. His priorities may be more on getting ripped than playing defensive back effectively at this point.

Only 230? I would've guessed more.

Back in the 80s or 90s the Bengals had a SS named David Fulcher who went 240 at times. Not someone you'd want to encounter in a dark alley or crossing route. I guess if you're fast enough to keep playing SS, it's better to be a behemoth at SS.

I'm sorry, I have to laugh at this. The dudes shoulders are not only pretty well capped, but it's all lean muscle as evidenced by the striations you can see where he is holding the phone forward.

As far as the weighted ab work, he may well not even do that much. The guy is sitting at a ridiculous low bodyfat, like 5-6% in that picture. Core strength is invaluable for football anyway.

He obviously is on HGH and some other goodies, but that is what a guy should be doing.

His shoulder are small compared to his arms.

Low bodyfat has nothing to do with the thick mid-section. That is all because of weighted ab work. It is overdone. Core strenght is good but overdone and it makes you look thick.

And he is not obviously on HGH or other goodies. Dedication and good eating can do this.

He could also use more work on his lats.

He also might be aware that because of his injury history the next team to take a chance on him might be his last. He wants to gain some extra muscle mass to better endure the rigors of an NFL safety.

Nah, he really is - the guy is an unbelievable athlete. Sadly, I think he's an unbelievable athlete who couldn't get enough and started hitting HGH or the like. I guess if Cushing and Mathews can keep playing - not to mention, have an award for DROY re-awarded after a positive test - why not safety's too? The NFL's drug policy ( or rather enforcement thereof ) is a joke.

Oh god, I don't know where to start. Steroids and fitness topics are amongst the biggest laughers on this board. I did zero direct ab work period when I was about his size and you would have sworn against my own word that I did. I did tons of heavy deadlifts and squats though.

His size certainly isn't detrimental to speed jumping ability, etc. Pictures can be very deceiving. Lots of guys in the NFL look like that without a shirt on.

As far as being clean...please.
