Heading to the Rockies to fly fish...

I'm heading out Sunday and the reports indicate the fishing is great.

I've spent all day getting my gear in order and looking at line/tippets/leaders to see if all is good. It is.

The match the hatch report gives me an idea, but I never use those recommendations exactly. A very slight twist is always better.

We'll mostly be fishing streams that have substantial pools, but good running water.

My Godson will be learning the subtleties of this great sport. He's 11.

'Wooly worms' behind a small Colorado spinner work well, too.

I wish I'd bothered to photograph more fish when I was 20-ish. I used to catch a lot of 'wall mount' trout out there, and ate 'em on the spot. Well, I had my fun. Good luck, and if you ever get to Grand Mesa or down in the nearby Gunnison...don't tell anyone about it but CHIEFS fans.
I wish I had more uses for my fly fishing gear but there just isn’t that much call for one in Kansas. I use mine for some white bass, crappie and perch, not because it’s the best tool for the job but just because I want to get some use out of it.

And he gets walked twice a day, rain, shine or snow. About three miles total. He was a bit of a tard when he was much younger, but he's maturing nicely. The shame is that at least weekly, some idiot will see him being walked and either say, "Bad dog!" or they'll cross the street. Even some of my neighbors when we first got him. Now they know that he's just a big dork. But we also never forget that he's a powerful dog capable of doing damage. We aren't the type to say, "Oh, he'll NEVER do THAT!" He's still just a dog with his own mind that we can't read.

Yeah, here in KS I use fly rods w/popping bugs at sundown to catch bass and bluegill, just out past the weedbeds. I don't mind throwing the bass back, I just like to watch 'em 'tailwalk' for a minute. But I like to clean the 'gills and pan fry - or make clam chowder with a few canned clams and a lot of boned/cubed fish. Pretty good eats.

In May I went to the Smokies for my first fly fishing trip, it was absolutely awesome.
