I don't think anyone could ever make Arrowhead more of an impenetrable fortress than how Pioli did it. That place was on lockdown from day 1, and he loved it like that.

The article does two things -

1) Gives us all a breath of fresh air as to how our team is now run
2) Provides conclusive evidence that the "Patriot Way" starts with Bill Belichick and ends with Tom Brady.

Funny isn't it that all the high end talent on this team was drafted by the King except for a couple no-brainers (Berry,Houston). Nothing made me happier than to hear that Fat Scott used to mock the previous regime by referring to them as the "2-14s" and that is the exact record that got his fat ass sent packing.

I don't know that I'd call Houston a "no brainer". He was thought to potentially have all sorts of off-the-field issues that have just never materialized.

That said, I'm not sure there's anyone OTHER than Houston for Pioli to hang his hat on, and even that one's not necessarily a home run - just a nice, solid pick.

PFF had Houston as the 2nd most effective pass rushing OLB behind Von Miller pretty deep into the season last year. The Chiefs just didn't use him enough in that role. That says something about the previous coaching or Tamba Hali's limitations; I'm not sure which though. I'd call it a homerun for a 3rd rounder barring him running into serious issues.

but yeah it's pretty slim after that.. I think some of the olinemen might work out like Asomoah but drafting guards in the 2nd and 3rd you'd like to hope you hit almost every time. Jeff Allen looked like a solid 2nd round pick. for me to poop on!

He tested positive for weed. Not sure that qualifies as all sorts of off-the-field issues. He also had first round talent. I think it was a no brainer to grab him in the 3rd.

Uh, he was a lock for the first round until he failed a pot test is all I ever heard. NFL people are apparently unaware that tons of players smoke weed, I mean JFC watch the Tamba pro bowl video, he was so god damn high he could barely talk and the morons at kcchiefs.com were clueless and put the video up anyways.

Also, if a 3rd round pick that goes to the probowl in his second season is only a "solid pick", that pretty much makes Tom Brady the only "homerun" in NFL draft history.

Houston will have no problem, but Poe is the guy to watch, if the scheme we're hearing about is even close to as advertised, he'll usually be cut loose to be an upfield disrupter... i bet he goes down as ****** best move.

He was showing some real push towards the end, vote Poe in 2013.

Unfortunately Dorsey has already done one important thing identical to what Fat Scott did when he arrived in KC... trade for a true fan-wet dream-caliber veteran QB to be the Chiefs starting QB.

I understand that some people feel that way but I spoke to someone today at great length that's been a frequent contributor for two decades at both ESPN and the NFL Network that had the opposite view.

Without going into too much detail, the "League" views the Chiefs as a real playoff threat this season and the consensus is that the Alex Smith move was genius, especially when coupled with Reid. The "League" has also been extremely impressed with their moves in free agency.

I was also told that the Bills have no interest in Smith, have targeted Nassib and will take him with their second round pick, so eliminate him from contention. If there's an unlikely run on QB's, they'll be more than happy to trade up into the late first round and grab him.

Take it for what it's worth. It's not "Bible" but it was interesting and I appreciated the input, especially since we're so close to the draft.

They also thought that the move to get Cassel by Pioli when he first took the job was a great move.

Can't say I care much for how experts and analysts see things.

I personally think that if Reid tries to implement his offense the way he likes to run it with Alex Smith, this is a 5 win team at best.

If he adapts and asks Smith to manage the game in much the same way that Harbaugh, and Dontari Poe takes an impressive step forward in his progress, then this might be a 9 win team.
