Panthers' LT Jordan Gross will retire (B.Albert is gonna get PAID)

Another NFL hole at LT. Add one more team that'll be looking at B.Albert...

The Panthers have been clearing salary cap space this week, but they won’t need any of it for left tackle Jordan Gross.

Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that Gross has decided to retire rather than return for a 12th NFL season. An official announcement is expected to come on Wednesday.

Gross was set to become a free agent next month, but said at the end of last season that he would either play for the Panthers or no one. Gross, the eighth pick of the 2003 draft, was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and made the AP All-Pro team after the 2008 season.

His retirement leaves a big hole for the Panthers to fill on the offensive line as Gross was still playing at a high level in 2013 without much reason to expect a slip in his game in 2014. Some of the cap space created by restructuring the deals of Thomas Davis, Jonathan Stewart and Ryan Kalil could be earmarked for finding a replacement, although the Panthers have 20 other pending free agents and some other work to do on the offensive line this offseason.

Who the hell wants to play for the Cards, Dolphins, or Bucs? Those are 3 pretty shitty organizations right now.

Dude, this is his last contract and he turns 30 in November.

We had to cave into Bowes demands last offseason at the last second so we could tag Albert, otherwise he wanted to hit free agency last offseason.

He's coming off a pro bowl season.

The guy isn't gonna take a dime less than top dollar.

The cardinals aren't bad, and there are a few obvious and non-obvious advantages to playing in Florida.

Dont remember, is there still a transition tag? If we are not franchising someone else, tag him. Tell the teams we will let him go for a 2nd this year. And then see if the bidding goes up.

Hell yes there is. You gain an extra pick in this deep draft. That's why you tag and trade him.

If you tag him, you lose that cap money right away, and that would impact KC in the free agent market.

Dude...he wanted to play for the Dolphins last year when they were willing to pay him...why would he change his mind now. He wants to be paid, and there are no "winner" discount prices.
