I think in this case, it's probably to sign Houston.

So far, they're cutting all of the guys I expected them to cut in Jenkins, Avery, Fasano and DeVito. They'll restructure Hali and either cut or restructure Bowe.

The big question with Bowe is if he doesn't restructure, will they cut him pre or post June 1? Post makes much more sense.

They can only designate 2 post june 1 cuts and they have someone in mind to cut that would leave more than $1.1M in dead money.

making Bowe a designated post-june 1 cut would have a far greater impact, I think. You take his $9M dead money which all accelerates to this year, and you spread it over two years.

That means that his $14M cap number would drop to $4.5 this year, saving us $9.5M on the cap this year alone.

Once we see what's what in WR free agents and they believe they have a couple potential targets in the draft, I'd bet we see them do this to Bowe.

@ChiefsInsider: With Fasano gone, he won't be the last #Chiefs player cut before Monday, this clears path for Hudson deal at $6-7M per? Worth it KC fans?

I can see a mega thread coming

Next should be:

Dwayne Bowe (June 1 cut) - $4.5M dead money, $9.5M savings on cap

Chase Daniel (regular cut) - $1M dead money, $3.8M savings on cap

Joe Mays (regular cut - $1M dead money, $2.7M savings on cap

Sean Smith (June 1 cut) - $1.1M dead money this year, $6.65M savings on cap

Tamba Hali (regular cut) - $2.964M dead money, $9M savings on cap

Derrick Johnson (regular cut) - $0 dead money, $5.25M savings on cap

If the Chiefs did all of this, they would be at $39M in savings.

Added Bowe and Fasano - that's $39M in savings.

We don't have to cut Sean Smith, it's just that his contract is structured so that it's an attractive way to save money without significant penalty.

Those are just the biggest contracts that stick out. Not saying we make all the moves, but you can clear a shitload of room still.
