And then we get to the playoffs, a rare event, a QB with good numbers, liked in the locker room and we spent draft capital in a QB. They realized if we wanted to win a SB, Smith wouldn’t get us there.

That coach and QB of the Cowboys have a 1% chance of this working out.

No - his best chance was hiring Belichick, hoping he'd 'next level' the defense and get Dak into Game Manager Late Stage Brady mode.

That's FAR more likely than winning anything of note with Mike McCarthy.

the Cowboys had Jimmy Johnson crying during halftime in their playoff game because they were sucking so much, and Jerruh decides keeping McCarthy is the right choice. Especially since you have names like Belichick and Harbaugh that are looking for NFL jobs and you can’t tell me either of those wouldn’t be interested in coming to Dallas if Jones came calling.
