I had a C-store in Chanute and the local Chevy dealer was a gasoline customer. The service manager would go through a protracted ritual filling up a customers car so he could road test it to check the mileage. And yes, he came back 30 minutes later and repeated the procedure to determine actual gas used to travel his predetermined distance. He was doing this to dispel the customer claim that the car didn't get the mileage stated on the sticker. He could always blow off the customer this way. Driving habits greatly affect gas mileage.

OPEC Agrees to Boost Crude Output VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- OPEC agreed late Tuesday to boost its crude output by 500,000 barrels a day starting Nov. 1, in an effort to calm markets worried that supplies could grow tight by the end of the year. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, spokesman for the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, said the increase would be based on the group's current production -- meaning the 12-nation cartel was adding actual oil to the market. Ibrahim said OPEC agreed to "vigilantly monitor" fluctuations in the volatile global crude market.

It never ceases to amaze me, the number of cars that blow past me in a 30 mph zone, only to get hung up at the next red light that I creep up to and park right beside them. You just can't be in a hurry when driveing, it won't make a difference anyway. It's like saving only pennies.

I wonder why gas was $.50 per gallon cheaper right out side of NY City, (Newark) than it is here in the Chicago burbs? (last weekend)

BOLD ONCE PRICE GOUGING NOW NORMAL!
Once price gouging, now normal Gas now higher than price after 9/11, when stations were fined Clinton Thomas Agribusiness Reporter Few Americans reacted quicker to the events of Sept. 11 than gas station owners. Fuel prices in St. Joseph had hovered between $1.59 and $1.79 per gallon in the days leading up to the attack. As worried citizens scrambled to stockpile resources, prices at the pump rose to sky-high levels across the nation. The Midland Empire was not left out, as nine Northwest Missouri gas stations eventually paid fines for violating state price-gouging laws. On the sixth anniversary of Sept. 11, those days of price gouging might not look so bad to local consumers. In 2001, Wood's Mini Mart on Frederick Avenue was fined for hiking prices to $2.49 per gallon. Now under new management, Woody's Gas Express sold regular unleaded for $2.77 per gallon on Monday at the same location. The price of unleaded gasoline was as high as $2.83 a gallon at some stations in St. Joseph this week. Companies no longer receive fines for such prices, but that does not mean consumers have forgiven the oil companies. "I guarantee it's still a gouge, but it's a supply-and-demand thing, too," local resident Will Campbell said. "They're holding back supply and it's raising the prices." The government justified the fines it handed out in 2001 by pointing out that domestic petroleum pipelines and refineries were never in any danger. The same holds true today, yet the fines have stopped. Customers at local pumps tried to guess why that has happened. "On 9/11 it was just a few stations gouging," Larry Osborn said while he filled his tank. "Now everyone is doing it. They can't fine them all
