Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

Kinda like you, except for the year of production.

I embellished to make a point.

Point is, Cassel's arm strength is questionable.

IF it is true the whole package just cost us a second round pick I think it's a hell of a deal.
I love the "risk/reward" ratio. one hellofa upside for the risk involved. even if Cassel tanks ala Ryan Leaf we only lost the #34, some $$, and a couple of seasons to find out.

I'll be honest.

I wanted no part of Brees.

VARSITY
I'm good with this. I do share some of the same concerns as Hamas, with the exception being I haven't heard anybody claim his arm is below-average. Even before he was a proven commodity the one thing I heard people saying they knew was that he was a strong-armed QB. I haven't watched him play enough to have evaluated this myself, though.

I'm hoping the "losing Moss" factor is offset by the offensive coaching ability that Haley provides.

Would the Chiefs have drafted Brees? Maybe, who knows?

Would he have panned out with KC? Maybe, who knows?

I do know that the Chargers drafted a QB #1 overall because Brees was a bust...or so they thought.

It is a problem when you trade a first round pick for a guy you're going to get 4 or 5 years out of.

Mixed emotions here...We needed a QB, I didn't want Sanchez. If for some reason Stafford's available at 3 I will be unhappy about this.

The Chiefs put it all on the line. They weren't building for the long-term. They were clearly building for the team to win the Super Bowl in 5 years. And again, if the front office was even AVERAGE at drafting players and evaluating defensive coaches, they probably would have been strong competitors.

The Chiefs got a franchise QB for 5 years. It wasn't a bad pick. It's not Green's fault that the Chiefs failed draft after draft, free agent after free agent, to provide him with the right defensive supporting cast. No first round pick alone can win without giving him the right supporting cast.

Even if the Chiefs got a franchise young QB in 2003, we'd still be in a similar position today--we'd have a very good QB surrounded by a bunch of pieces of shit.
