I'm still proud of this team. They put up a great effort, just not enough for the second half. Can't play defensively in the 2nd... gotta keep up the pressure. We didn't do that, and we lost. This performance was enough to keep teams from looking past us in the WC. It gives us a LOT of respect by other teams.

Your posts speak for themselves. I don't have to distort anything.

You prob didn't actually play sports. I would bet you didn't. There is nothing wrong with that but it would explain a whole lot.

We just didn't have the depth to compete in the 2nd half. No real quality on the bench to come in and make something happen. We really missed Bradley today.

Great first half, but giving up that first goal so quick in the second half was killer. You want to come out and control the game, try to hold the ball and pick your spots. Instead Brazil controlled the ball and was unrelenting with the pressure.

Good tournament, but god it's going to be disappointing to watch the Gold Cup after this. WCQ can't start back up soon enough.

If the Chiefs did go 0-6, then make it to the SB, then the NFL would have a tremendous amount of parity. And if the team did go 0-6 before losing in the SB, then I'm not sure that, given the parity in the league, one could expect them to get back there next season. If the league really is that much of a coin-flip at the time of this hypothetical season, then the positives of a "bad" Chiefs team SB run would be lessened.

You cup the balls, stroke the shaft and swallow the gravy at logical conclusions.

This tournament was not a 'parity' tournament. It was a tournament where the US started out WAY outclassed, and they grew up big time. And today's game, win or lose, was not a 'parity' game. That was high quality effort from both sides all game long.

Onyewu, Demerit, Donovan, Dempsey, Spector.

Altidore gives glimpses, but is still learning, and has a lot left to learn. I don't know if he'll ever have the scoring instincts of Dempsey, even though he has way more physical attributes.

They don't say what you think they say, that's for sure.

On point number one: not a single one of my posts intimate that U.S. soccer is shit for not winning. Not a single one.

On point number two: a direct comparison between NWMSU & teams that haven't won in a long time (like the Chiefs or Cubs) was never made by me. Here's a brief timeline of how you may have come to misunderstand me:
1. UP posts that she's used to results like this.
2. Someone else replies 'yeah, we're Chiefs fans.'
3. UP says that its more of a Cubs/memphis thing for her.
4. I add my own frustrations with NWMSU's close-but-no-cigar-ness.

Now, you didn't think about how the Memphis part of UP's post fits in with my mention of NWMSU. Memphis has a recent runner-up finish, and has had high seeds for the past few years.

I wasn't trying to connect the Chiefs hypothetical to U.S. soccer. I think I was trying to distance the two. U.S. soccer can take away a whole lot more positive things from this finals appearance than an 0-6, then SB Chiefs team could from theirs given the extreme parity that would be necessary for the Chiefs to make that run.

agreed--I'd keep an eye on Benny--he does seem very poised on the ball. Major/major kudos to Howard--the guy is really something to watch!
