Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

all this is just you looking for some reason for things to not be in the Chiefs' favor. I understand, Chiefs fans are used to losing.

we have Albert
Miami wants Albert
Miami must pay us what we want to take Albert

Exactly. We dont NEED to get rid of Albert.

Worst case we keep his ass and draft a DE.

I dont think we go OT unless we lose Albert via trade

we can easily any position we choose regardless of what happens with Albert.

we can draft a tackle and play them at RT for a year and then revisit Albert next year. It would give us a strong line this year and allow the rookie to get his feet wet before moving to left tackle.

All this don't draft a RT at 1.1 stuff is just bullshit we shouldn't get caught up in. Let all the little bitches bleed and cry all over themselves, who cares. ****'em

Our job is to make the best team we can ... not follow some make-believe rule or worry about how we look.

Take the player you think is best at 1.1 and move on

Well i wouldnt go THAT far to get a RT. Yeah we can revisit Albert next year, but ... salary cap wise it doesnt make sense to pay a LT and a RT that much.

I think a guy like Dion Jordan would be a nasty get. And we just resign Albert during the year.

people are just too hung up on the LT/RT thing

It's only for one year and gives a rookie one season to learn before getting thrown into the LT fire.

Take the best player at 1.1

If that is Geno ... fine
If that is Fisher ... fine

You better worry about being right and not letting outside influences screw it up

Well, the BEST player of any position is Warmack at Guard... but I wouldnt advocate taking him at 1.1.

I get what you are saying, but I think the positional value is a hang up for me, and probably most others.

I would prefer to see us add a stud at a current position we are lacking.... Thats why I want Jordan. Three Pass Rushers is too much to account for, and could single handedly win us games.

A QB could too... but thats unfortunately something we dont appear to be interested in this year.

positional value does apply but using a left tackle out of position for a single year is not the same.

if they think that Jordan is the BPA then take him and make it work with Hali and Houston.

The 1st pick of the draft should be someone who will put butts in the seats and fill a need. Taking a tackle doesn't do that do that putting butts in the seats.
