@RapSheet: Two #Chiefs notes: 1. They seem to have a market for franchised pass-rusher Dee Ford, with the #Packers and #49ers expressing interest, I’m told. 2. They are hosting FA RB Carlos Hyde and there is a good chance they sign him, if all goes well with the physical, source said.

In response with omg who will replace Ford. Speaks is obviously Houston's replacement.

@Jacobs71: This is something I’m going to touch on in our podcast tomorrow. I think people are so accustom to the predictability of Sutton’s rush tendencies they don’t realize with Daly & Spagnuolo that they are going to be unpredictable with the pressure. It isn’t just 4 guys to a spot.

I’m thinking something on the Ford front gets done soon. The brass will want parameters on how much $ they can play with in offers during the FA tampering period. If Green Bay and SF are interested as rumored, hunker down, work it out, and ready the FA plan of attack.

Since I can't see us cutting both Houston and Ford....
I still think the Chiefs have a back pocket idea to let Houston see what his market looked like so they could potentially extend and restructure him. Houston played hardball on refusing to be restructured. His tone could change if he sees nobody wants to trade him for his current contract. And I'm sure throughout this his agent got a good sense of what other teams are willing to give him for a new contract.

@ByRyanWood: Hearing same thing regarding #Packers’ interest in Dee Ford. One source told me they “would love to get him.” But he won’t be cheap. Will be interesting to see how much they’re willing to part with one offseason after losing out on the Khalil Mack sweepstakes. https://twitter.com/rapsheet/status/1104378377539072000

What would reactions be if a trade happens with the Packers where the meat of the value is in a future pick? Say something along the lines of.

Ford to the Pack for a 2019 4th and a 2020 2nd.

Packers have two 1st rd picks and two 4th’s.

2nd (44) and 4th (112) is fair.

Would be pretty disappointing if we couldn’t get a 2nd in this year’s draft.

I would be fine with that, but being able to wait on future pick(s) to actually get a deal done has value... The Peters ordeal is completely different a situation, but now we get to see the benefit of the patience. This league is sooooo impatient in everything about it. However, with the overvaluing of present draft picks, could we see more of a trend moving this way to play off other teams' impatient tendencies with the draft?

Maybe squeeze that 2nd rounder into a future 1st.

Pay up, Packers! (Mike Smith is clearly influencing this)

Your 1st at the back end of the first OR two seconds (this year and next year) OR second this year and a player. They shouldn’t take less than that.

Get it done. Cut Houston. Plenty of cap room. Sign playmaker Safety, then Cut Berry as well.

Time to move on from the ‘old’ Chiefs, who while good, were not moving the needle overall on the defensive side of the ball. Bring on change!
