Dakota Fanning to be raped onscreen

This is disturbing. I hope people boycott this movie because there's no need for crap like this.

Dakota, 12, to star in 'disturbing paedophile film'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1773

Child actress Dakota Fanning will appear in a controversial new movie featuring paedophile scenes.

War of the Worlds star Dakota, 12, has signed up to appear in Hounddog.

The screenplay calls for Fanning's character to be raped in one explicit scene and to appear naked or clad only in "underpants" in several other horrifying moments.

A source close to the film said: "The two taboos in Hollywood are child abuse and the killing of animals.

"In this movie, both things happen." Fanning's mother, Joy, and her Hollywood agent, Cindy Osbrink, see the movie, written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier, as a possible Oscar vehicle for the pint-size star.

But despite Fanning's status as a bankable actress - whose movies, including last year's War of the Worlds have earned more than half a billion dollars since 2001 - the alarming material seems to have scared off potential investors, according to the New York Daily News.

The film charts the life of a girl who is abused and finds solace in the music of Elvis Presley.

Fanning's carefully choreographed rape scene has already been filmed. But then the production - which also stars Robin Wright Penn, David Morse and Piper Laurie - was stopped because of a lack of money.

But emergency investors were found and the movie is set to be finished by the end of the week.

"It's not just the rape scene - the whole story is challenging Dakota as an actress," Fanning's agent, Osbrink, said.

"And I've never been so proud of her in my life. In every scene she gets better and better."

Rape doesnt always have to be sexual, you never know, in this instance it may not be.

In most instances I can appreciate that approach, but as others have stated these types of movies have been before sans the graphic approach and still managed to get the point across very well.

If this filmaker HAS to have the more graphic detail to get the point across, she should quit her day job and seek employment else where. JMNSHO

How else would one rape a 12 year old girl?

I probably won't see it. I think the message can be made without putting the 12 year old in an explicit rape scene. However, I do believe the actress is mature beyond the normal 12 year old and will be able to put this in perspective and not be emotionally harmed by it. I suspect her people are very concerned about her well being. I understand if the film maker thinks the scene is necessary. I believe this scene is motivated by both artistic expression and financial gain. I think it's intentionally controversial. If it's legal, I support their right to do the scene. Personally, I think it's rediculous, unnecessary, sensationalism. I do believe it will be made, I don't know how it will do at the box office though. Even if it's a great movie, this one scene, if taken to far, will destroy box office numbers.

I wasn't 'entertained' by Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Kids, Bully, Gummo, In the Company of Men, The War of the Roses, Seven, any number of dark slices of the human experience. Or even more in documentaries such as Brother's Keeper, Capturing the Friedmans, even Gimme Shelter. But I often took something away from it that was moving or cautionary or unsettling, or otherwise memorable. Can't say that of every movie I see.
That's the problem, the much of the public is satisfied with the trash being produced now days. I for one refused to be duped into spending my hard earned money on garbage. I'm guessing that crime and the filth committing crime didn't just begin their act recently. It's been going on since the beginning of time. I'm sure we agree on that fact. So why is it NOW okay that producers sensationalize this trash? If I feel shitty leaving the theater, I'm pissed.

well, we're all kinda freaks in one way or another, just some's worse than others...

this kid is like 12 going on 90...

and she's a seasoned actress, i don't really think she is being exploited...

she can tell the difference between acting and real life, imo...

if she can make a bazillion dollars for playing a controversial role, more power to her...

I was always told the same thing as a kid, I was older and more mature than my age. And I can tell you that even with that being the case there is no way I would have been able to fully comprehend the situation being acted out. You can throw out all day long how she is mature for her age, and while it may very well be the case, there is no way in hell she is mature enough.
