Denise, here's your warning...

We have a longstanding policy here that if you're not contributing to the football board at all, you're not a productive member.

I just ran a cross-section of your posts, and you've talked less football in the last few months than ClearVision.

You yourself said you're just not passionate about football anymore. A quick glance at your posts suggest that if you're that narrowly focused on human interest stories and politics, there's better bulletin boards for you to frequent.

And before anyone comes running in screaming about how unfair this is, it's happened before. We've banned multiple people under this very same premise.

Ok, for you. You are right.

I've proved my point. I will continue a self imposed ban against those on the list who wished for my absence. I'm giving them what they said they wanted.

I'll just do it without pointing out the hypocrisy to their face or the .jpeg.

The decency is in the timing, as I'm sure you are aware.

I haven't been online since the shootings took place, but let me guess: there was a thread about the shootings and you started with your political questions while it was still happening or shortly thereafter?

I asked questions about the response and was blasted as doing something wrong. Then, many of the same questions and ideas I had were asked by journalists and talking heads (on both sides of the spectrum) and by security analysts.

The minute 30 innocent people died was the time to start asking why.

The minute thousands of people were victimized by Katrina was the time to start asking why.

3. Ergo, "'ban' siders" agree with Mr. crazycoffee's posts. In other words, she is "lumping" all the "'ban' siders" in with Mr. crazycoffee and vice versa. It's specific-to-general pattern logic that is very unhelpful in any intelligent discussion and, had I voted to ban her, I would be pissed that she associated me with that post.

Posts like hers are what make people like me wonder about Ms. memyselfI's motivations, Mr. penchief. Personally, I don't think all "'ban' siders" voted that way because they agree with Mr. crazycoffee's posts or that they hold a similar level of animosity. They may, in fact, have had many different reasons. Hope that helps.

FAX
My apologies, Mr. FAX. You have always seemed fair-minded to me. You have always treated everyone with respect even when you disagree with them. And that is admirable. You have always been fair with me. You are an asset to this community.

Your points are well taken. I understand what you are saying and don't entirely disagree with you. The making of blanket accusations by anyone is not a noble thing to do. I have probably been guilty of that when arguing with hard righties before. But my motivation in this instance has not been to defend denise's actions on their own, but to point out that they have not exceeded the actions of others who have not been nominated for banning.

I have always defended everybody's right to say whatever they believe. But I also reserve the right to call someone out when I think they've crossed the line. In fact, the evolution of this thread may ultimately prove beneficial to everyone including myself. But I don't believe in censorship and I don't believe in banning, per se. The only time I get a little edgy is when someone decides to forego the gist of an argument to hurl vulgar personal insults.

And that is really all I'm pointing out here. I believe that the obscene insults are the direct result of the same menatality that motivated the banning thread to begin with. Some people are just sick and tired of not being able to get the best of someone that they disagree with. And they don't have the wherewithal to rise above it.

As far as I go, personally, I have never advocated a banning. I have never ragged on someone for expressing their opinion. The only thing I have ever protested has been the personal attacks. In fact, I don't think I've ever even given negative rep (Disclaimer: I do have one night of infamy that I confess may have resulted in lashing out with neg rep but my memory is blank from that night so I'm not making a definitive declaration. But I don't think I ever have).

People are entitled to speak their opinions. But that doesn't mean that it's okay to veil public personal attacks as opinions or even disagreements, IMO. When it comes to denise, she has been able to get under the skin of other posters who disagree with her without resorting to direct personal attacks (that I know of). Whether or not she lumps all of those who disagree with her together as being the same is something I'm not prepared to dispute or defend.
