Derek Carr

The Raiders are going with a rookie at quarterback to begin the regular season.

Fox’s Jay Glazer reports the Raiders have switched starters in advance of Sunday’s opener at the Jets, with Derek Carr getting the nod over Matt Schaub.

According to Glazer, players have been informed of the decision.

The call to go with Carr comes after the second-round pick from Fresno State completed 11-of-13 passes for 143 yards and three TDs in the preseason finale vs. Seattle. Schaub sat out the game with elbow soreness.

Schaub, whom the Raiders acquired from Houston in the offseason, was just 24-of-47 passing for 218 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in exhibition play. He was sacked three times.

Wonder if Hayden is going to pan out eventually? That will help a little but you are right about the D.... Until the Raiders can consistently play defense at a high level, this team is going nowhere.

Mack is gonna be a good player for a long time.. Sio Moore was a good pick, Roach being out hurts the D bad...

Every QB in the NFL that plays us sits out there and plays catch with their receivers, Palmer was like 12/13 at one point.
You can't possibly expect to win like that.

We have no WR's that can fight off the line, Most defenses are living off disrupting the timing at the line while sending xtra guys in to rush Carr... The only way to beat a rush is to burn their asses but you can't burn anyone when your receiver is standing up vertical on the line fighting corners add that to our dismal TE situation and you have about nothing on offense...

DMC is a capable back but he can only do so much, teams can easily stay home against the run on us because they know we can't catch the damn ball half the time even when it is delivered.

The good news is we have a mountain of cash again this off season and a full slate of picks (I think) , We don't need a QB for once and we can actually use that #1 pick to trade for a boatload of picks to get this team really young and talented but we are still talking probably 3 years if everything goes right unless a miracle happens.

My name is Derek Carr. Nothing says "I've arrived" quite like a loss to the Cleveland Browns. It's ok, I helped put up 13 points--7 of which were in garbage time. I'm quickly approaching Brodie Croyle's career record as a starter and today I made sure of that by fumbling away any realistic attempt of a comeback. Despite those previously mentioned end-of-game garbage stats, I had a brutal YPA o 6.1 and a horrendous YPC of 9.6. Still living up to my name of Dump-it Derek!!!
