For all the prognosticating by everyone with the new round of expansion talks, you think the lesson everyone would have learned by now is this.....there is nothing that is "impossible".
There are alot of "improbable" scenarios....just for monetary reasons. But they aren't impossible with a room full of lawyers and a whole lot of concessions. We've already seen that. |

Kind of why I love(d?) the Big East, honestly. Most of the football schools have a lot in common, and the quality in basketball bridges any gaps with the (city-based) Catholic schools. Now if the everyone can just play some games against each other before richer conferences expand again.

ahh, OK fair enough. I think the definition of "possible" in this context, is extremely remote, but its not worth burning calories.

This post (in their ~350-page realignment thread) made me choke on my coffee, and it could be useful here. Quote:

It pains me that ND will likely never join a major conference.

I don't really agree with much of this. Comparing the AFC package to a college football package doesn't really make much sense, either. Combined 1-3 tier rights makes for a lot more inventory than what CBS has for the AFC.

I don't understand why the B1G is taking in Rutgers. I understand it's party of the NY market but there's so many schools in that area plus college football isn't a huge deal up there. I can understand Maryland although the football team sucks. I'm afraid this hurts the overall brand.

Top notch academics - they are a Big Ten school clone Big Ten schools love to recruit NJ - Penn State, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, etc. Big time sleeping giant in football - Big Ten should jump start them NYC will watch when Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State come to town |

If you are going to dilute the conference you might as well go further south instead of north. Would have been better to see them go after the research triangle thus adding a pipeline to recruit in the south where much of the talent in college football comes. Not only that but you would also have the best college basketball conference and it wouldn't even be close. |

Maryland is fine academically, but they're not the type of public ivy that Michigan is. Virginia would have been a far, far better fit in that regard.
With Rutgers, NY doesn't give a mother**** about this school in terms of athletics. But the Big 10 should congratulate itself on cornering the Jersey Shore market. In short, this reminds me of the PAC adding Utah. |

I'm thrilled with adding Maryland as long as it opens up recruiting in the D.C. area. Some nice talent out there.

Guess Boise State, San Diego State and BYU are back in talks with the Mountain West Conference in coming back. After the meetings in Denver last week, it is apparent to BYU they are actually behind the MWC in getting a chance at top notch bowls. San Diego State and Boise State realize the mass exodus of the remaining top tier Big East schools make their move to that conference not needed. The TV contract for the Big East will be nothing after the top remaining schools head off for the ACC (UConn/Louisville) and the loss of Rutgers to the B1G.
