I personally think, if true, it is just a bluff from the Big 12 because the money is just too good, but the 4 conferences do each have veto power if they hate money and are stupid enough to use it.

A four team playoff without the Big 12 still beats the BCS. I think you'll see something like the two highest ranked conference champions get auto bids with the two highest remaining also getting in. (Maybe 3-1 instead of 2-2, but it's not going to be four auto bids.)

One reason why this rumor makes sense is because of an irrational fear of a CCG knocking out a team. (yeah the Big 12 got burned before, but its just as likely to help a team that needs a win) If the Big 12 can just play their 12 games, they are probably fine with selecting best 4 available and presuming they'll always have a 12-0, 11-1, or strong 10-2 team make it. If you force them to play a CCG, which again they are irrationally afraid of, it would make sense for them to respond by insisting on conference champs. Whether or not they ultimately cave on that demand is another story, but you can see why they would make the demand in that case.

I don't care, its not really relevant to my point. Give the ACC a veto if you want.

So all five conferences get an auto bid into a four team playoff?

Not sure what you are getting at. Obviously someone is not going to make it into the playoffs, and the committee will have to decide, in that hypothetical, very unlikely scenario, which champ (usually the ACC) is least-worthy.

I think you misunderstood, I'm not saying that a playoff without a Big 12 team in it is unacceptable, obviously the Big 12 is going to have a bad year sometime, and the ACC cant be terrible every year. I'm saying that a playoff system that does not involve the Big 12 conference (or any of the other major conferences) is not possible.

At that point they almost had to leave as they were becoming a nuisance to not only KU but everyone else. On the other fan boards nobody even cared when they left other than KU |

Given: Notre Dame gets a slot (ranked #1). SEC champ gets a slot. (ranked #2) Wild devil's advocate scenarios: KSU loses to Texas, and OU wins the Big 12 Wisconsin beats Nebraska and wins the Big 10 UCLA beats Stanford and wins the PAC Georgia Tech beats FSU to win the ACC You really think that two out of UCLA, Oklahoma, Georgia Tech, or Wisconsin get in over Oregon and Florida? Oregon is 5th, and Florida is 6th. Oklahoma is 11th, UCLA is 12th, and Wisconsin and Georgia Tech don't get a single top 25 vote in any of the polls. Why would the SEC let something like that happen when they are squirting ropes all over the current system?
