Brady Quinn getting half the first team reps

I am surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but according to the radio on 610 this morning, (Bill Maas and Fescoe) Quinn has been getting about 50% of the first team reps in practice this week.

In the short term this is certainly a good thing because Quinn certainly can't be worse than what Cassel has been so far. But I wonder, what if he starts and does decent? Decent enough to warrant not drafting a first round QB next year. I really want the team to win but I want it to be like last week against the Saints every week where we win in spite of the QB, not because of him or with him really contributing. If Quinn does decent will that preclude them from going hard after a QB next season? (If they ever were going to at all).

*EDIT* I found the podcasts where they talk about this. It starts at about 15:10.

http://www.610sports.com/topic/play_...udioId=6054578

Fescoe asks him how RAC feels about Cassel and so they talk about it. At around 15:10 when they talk about it Maas say, "They are keeping their options open...," then he goes on to elaborate around 15:45,

Quote:
He takes a lot of snaps in practice now. It's not like he is just sitting there holding a clipboard giving the scout team look. He is getting about 50% of the reps, on the week in preparation. Maas.
Then they talk about it a little more around the 18:00 mark.

Didn't have Winston either. And he only got sacked once in 3 games.

I still can't believe that we are rehashing the same facts about Cassel being a failure that were brought 1 1/2 years ago.

Pioli is reeruned. Deal with it.

Yup.

So a few questions you have to ask. Imagine if Orton had Charles. Imagine if he had a credible red zone threat like they have in Peyton Hillis. And yes, imagine if he had one extra blocker. Those are three ENORMOUS upgrades over what he had to work with. Charles especially.

What Orton proved is that the talent is good enough for even an average QB to move the ball, especially if he spreads out his receiver targets. So that's a really, really sad statement when our starting QB can't do the same thing, even with Jamaal Charles and Winston and Hillis added to your supporting cast.

The people saying that Quinn offers nothing over Cassel don't seem to get it - that part really doesn't matter. Benching Cassel would signify that his days in KC are done, and a new QB is on the horizon. That's why it's significant, and should be celebrated, if it were to happen. I just don't see it happening...

I wouldn't put it past this regime to yank Cassel, put in Quinn and watch him suck complete ass, and then shuffle Cassel on out there again.

They are buffoons.

That would be some Pioli logic, right there. Put in Quinn with the hopes he stinks it up so he can say "see, I told you Cassel was the man!"

If they bother making the move at all it needs to be permanent...

The realist in me says if this were true (splitting reps) it is probably more castle dinged up and lighting the load a bit.
The dreamer in me says Romeo needed this to happen before he could logically yank castle for performance issues. Castle deserves to be yanked but have you prepared for that is the question.

It's sad when an organization has a QB contraversey when you don't even have another QB causing it. And what's worse is a GM who can't accept the fact that he has that situation on his hands.
