Chiefs trade 34th pick for Cassel and Vrabel

Chiefs just got Cassel, ON NFLN!

http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/02...with_patriots/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has acquired QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel from New England in exchange for the Chiefs second-round pick (34th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft. The agreement is contingent on both players reporting and passing their physicals.

“I have a long history with both players,” said Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli. “Mike and Matt are men that I respect both personally and professionally. I look forward to having them as new members of the Chiefs family.”

I just see a need, and I'm sure Pioli & Haley see it as well. We have Bowe, Gonzalez, & a platoon of bodies. We need another wideout to run the scheme effectively.

Be that Boldin, Housh, Crabtree, Maclin, or whomever, the need remains. Seeing Pioli in action assures me that it will be addressed!

FTR, I hope we get a TE to replace Gonzo in the draft. There are several available this year. I'd be stoked if we got Coffman or Ingram in the 3rd round.

So we would have someone who isn't afraid to draft a QB, and then draft another if he ****ed the first time.

No. But keep in mind that Cassel's o-line was banged up a lot this year. It wasn't nearly as good this year as it was last year.

Yup.

I wanted to trade down before this but now even more. Move down to 10-18 range, grab a 2nd rounder back plus picks (someone has the value chart I'm sure,) and take a good DE/OLB edge rusher for our 3-4 in the second.

Hell, I wouldn't mind grabbing another HB in the 2nd/3rd either...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Unbelievable that Pioli pulled this off. Now we don't waste time having to develop a young QB, the rebuilding process is about done on the offensive side of the ball. I bet LJ screws his head on and stops running like a little girl now that we have a legitimate QB who can play in a pro style offense. No more having to watch draw plays from the shotgun as our signature running style like last year. We draft Curry if he's there, if he's not I wouldn't mind Crabtree. Bowe, Crabtree, Gonzo would be a pretty dang good trio of weapons.

When draft order is determined by tie-breaker, they rotate every other round.

We flip-flop with the Rams every round since we finished with the same record. They pick ahead of us in the odd rounds, we pick ahead of them in the even rounds.

I would not fret on the number of picks we have.... I think SP will have added quite a few picks from unloading the old dicks.

Agreed, but the Pats had Welker and Moss.

Do we have faith in Bowe?

And if we somehow get Cassel and Vrabel and end up with, say the #15 and #40 picks in the draft, Pioli might as well be annointed because he's a goddamn genious (CP spelling).
If we are trading down that low we are getting a future #1 in return as well.

Yeah the only thing that makes me happy is the Patriots fans think they did not get enough in return for losing both players for just a second.. Of course I think most of them or idiots so I have no idea..
