Why would you take Carpenter out for a lousy double switch? Save him two innings of work? Did he tweak something?

I understand because he's been carrying this offense on his back. He must be tired.

I don't fault Mo for the trade at all.

He did exactly what he needed to do - he acted aggressively to fill a hole and sacrificed some of his precious young pitchers in the process. It's a championship effort, IMO.

It's Heyward that's not pulling his weight. He's soft, IMO. He's not a pressure player. He looks for reasons to explain away his failures and in the end it's just him. He's constantly dicking with his swing and every effort he makes actually makes it worse.

Look at the swing he had as a rookie - it was perfect for his build. All he needed was a little experience so he could build his pitch recognition. Instead he's spent 4 years dicking with his swing and shortening it to close 'gaps' he sees.

He's essentially a teenager with an eating disorder. He looks at his strikeouts and shrieks "I'M FAT!!!" so he spends 3 months doing fence drills and shortening his swing to the point of being worthless.

Hey Jason - we can see your ****ing ribs! Eat a sandwich! And by eat a sandwich I mean extend your goddamn arms you clown. Stop watching Tom Emansky videos and acting like Peter Bourjos is the guy who's offense you should emulate. You should be a guy that hits 25-30 HRs/season with 20+ SBs, 130 strikeouts and 80 walks with a .275 BA. Instead you'll sacrifice 15 bombs to save 20 strikeouts and at 10 points of BA.

I'm not mad at Mozeliak. I'm mad at the idiot tinkerer that won't recognize his strengths and play like a man who knows he's good. Instead he's an indecisive, insecure wimp that swings like a middle infielder.

The question becomes then, what do you do with Heyward?

Play it out.

If he doesn't get his shit together, you give him the QO, take the first round pick and you walk away. Grichuk can give you roughly similar defense and far greater power potential for $18 million or more less per season.

Mabry won't fix him - he's the wrong guy for what ails Heyward. Mueller, OTOH, should be able to if Heyward's open to fixing. Ultimately I'm not so sure he is. If he goes to a team like Oakland that teaches lifting/pulling the ball and he excels there, so be it - this franchise isn't going to emphasize that approach. If he can't excel within the confines of the offense we're going to teach, he's a bad fit. Take your pick, cut your losses and spend the money elsewhere.

What the hell was that batter doing sitting on a first pitch curve ball from rosey? He was all over that pitch.
