Or maybe Bulger was out half the season and the backups suh-hucked.
Or maybe half the team were apparently battling deadly infections half the season.

I like these hires...Blackmon/Krumrie/and maybe Henderson as DB coach have a hell of a lot more promise than the coaches we canned...we may actually have some talent there....finally

and Matsko makes sense....he works in the same scheme as us, he's coached a superbowl OL....I'm fine with it, they had a lot of injuries in the last 2 years and Martz' insane play calling....

I'm liking the staff Edwards is putting together.

IMHO he's been a very solid coach and successful coach. The Bills were a top defense in the NFL in 2004 in large part due to excellent linebacker play. His 1998 Falcons Linebacking crew was excellent, with Cornelius Bennett, Keith Brooking, and a few other guys.

He tends to coach in 4-3 systems, so my perennial hopes that he hooks on to the Patriots under BB are never going to be realized. He's also not a part of the Parcells/Belichick coaching trees.
Yeah, I remember Blackmon.
He was smart and a hitter.

I think this guy is really a good hire.

Yeah.
These guys, Krumrie and Blackmon could really help upgrade the play at the positions they coach.

If Hermie brings a D back to KC, and he doesn't **** up the O too much, I could get behind him.

1. Yes, after 30 years there will finally be an exception. It was a good, long run.

2. There will be nothing "wrong" about the the second set of data -- it clearly states there already have been two outliers.

In fact, there's nothing "right" or "wrong" about either -- just a data set that shows very strong, if not immutable, trends.

I just brought it up because your sig implies that if a coach doesn't go to the SB within 5 years they aren't a good coach or aren't ever going to go. The fact is even good coaches like Cowher, Holmgren, and yes, even Vermiel, have a hard time getting to and winning the SB in five years. There are 32 teams and only one team wins it each year. A lot of luck goes into it too. Some coaches, like Billick, that do it aren't really very good coaches, and some coaches like Holmgren that are don't make it for years. Parcells is one of the great coaches in NFL history, but I doubt ifhe makes the SB with Dallas anytime soon.

The decline started in 2002. From 2002 on, they were nowhere near as good as they were from 99-01.

Cowher, Holmgren and Vermeil DID get to Super Bowls within 5 years (Cowher didn't win his, though). Vermeil did it with two teams. So did Parcells. So I'm not bagging on them at all. Obviously, they can't do it with EVERY team they coach.

I get your point about luck, Barry Switzers, etc., but I still think 30 years is a compelling sample that 5 years is pretty much ample time to get a team to a Super Bowl. There will always be exceptions, but that doesn't disprove the overall point: The vast majority of coaches who reach a Super Bowl will do it within 5 years. That is indisputable.
