According to NFLPA.org...Priest has taken a pay cut.

So much for Priest being selfish.

I read it as Priest using kids as an add campaign for Priest Holmes

I'm not about to call him selfish for having contract disputes about that, not a chance.

He's a helluva football player and a damn fine person in my book.
I sure as heck got my share of enjoyment watching him play football in Chiefs Red and Gold. It's a damn shame that we couldn't get a defense to go with him during those years.

I already admitted I don't know muc about the Team Priest situation.

But if it was an ad campaign, is that really that big of a deal? It's not like Holmes was asking for money he hadn't earned. The guy 100% deserved a new contract. we can't use hindsight and say he 's too injury prone. He had only missed two games for KC up until that point.

Maybe it was more machiavelian than he needed to be, but I don't really have a problem with a guy pursuing what he is due.

Like I said before, I don't think anyone's claiming that Holmes is making some big concession. But he's not being selfish either.

The one thing being ignored in all of this is that the team wanted him to do this. Regardless of how he might benefit, he's scratching the team's back.
No he is not selfish for doing this.

But it does not mean he isn't. He is being compensated to help.

That is assuming this was even done, specially since his father in law says, he thinks Priest will retire to prevent reinjury.

I see it as Priest did some work, got the coats instead of pay or free because of who he is. Now some kids who didn't have a coat, now do. Those heartless bastards

My bitterness for Priest can be summed up in 4 words:

"I wanna get paid."

Maybe it's unfair...actually, it is unfair.

But for some reason, prior to 2003, I thought Priest was somehow different.

Hell yeah I want to get paid and make more money, don't you? Does that make me a selfish bastard? The Chiefs made a ton off of Priest and his years on top, he proved himself as a top back so he should get paid like one.

Some of you people would bitch if Priest gave you $5000 because he gave it to you in $100s instead of $20s!

I know I railed on him for that when it happened. I was posting at Wildbill's at the time, and those homers were having a fit over the way I has hammering him. But then I watched him earn every penny the following season. I watched him give his body up leaping and flipping into the endzone.

That's when I stopped and reconsidered. The Chiefs had just drafted a RB in the first round. That was their bargaining chip. Priest tried to make his bargaining chip fan support. In the end, he wasn't playing any more dirty than the Chiefs were, and it was all about getting something that he deserved.

I don't think he's a good guy. I think he's probably a dick, a lot like Gonzo is. But I don't feel he's been particulary unfair to this organization or it's fans. Whereas tsince the emergence of LJ, some fans have been pretty damn unfair to him.

I don't think you understood at all what I said.

I said I resent the way Priest acts now primarily because *I* (unfairly) put him on a pedestal prior to 2003.

depends on whether Holmes actually took a paycut or did some kind of restructure.

IF he took a straight paycut ... then it's outstanding

if he took some kind of restructure then we might be paying him for doing nothing.

I think he is an awesome player and seems like a good guy, but I don't know him personally. I have no idea what it is like to be a superstar with people worshiping you and hating you. I am sure that can make a person cynical.

If he's on the roster, I doubt we'll be paying him for nothing. He's going to get in the game some.

Code:

2006 3,250,000
2007 4,000,000
2008 5,000,000
2009 6,500,000

He didn't do anything. The second set of numbers you listed are his salary cap numbers, not his salary. NFLPA.org lists ONLY base salaries.

What they don't list is LBEI's (Likely to be earned incentive numbers) which is where a majority of his money comes from and what is factored into his cap number.

dam, if you had a brain you'd be dangerous

did i say he wouldn't play if he was on the roster? we were talking about restructures and pay cuts.

i said paying him for doing nothing ... like when we paid a player (rich gan non??) 100,000 dollars for restructuring his contract early so we could just cut him later.

we basically paid 100k just to delay a cap hit long enough for us to cut him when it was more convenient.

or

like when we restructure a players contract without them taking a pay cut.

we basically give them their yearly salary up front to lessen the salary cap hit.

The player gets paid immediately for doing nothing.
