Where does eveyone stand on smoking bans?

I think it should be up to the owner, and would even be willing to have it up to the owner if you have to be 21 to enter. City wide is bullshit IMO

So Bob Dole's privately owned business (you know...the one where Bob Dole assumes all the financial risk) is now "public"?

Totally agree. And parents who bring their infant children into a movie theater should be shot.

The one and only time one of my kids was making noise above a talking level and didn't respond to the first two times we told her to be quite we left.

People are generally inconsiderate. I'm not sure how you solve that. You have to include smokers in that don't you?

Other then fact of all the businesses that went belly up in places that had the law go in effect..

Granted some places might get more businesses, is it really worth it to have other businesses go under for it??

There's some debate on whether or not second hand smoke in the kinds of quantities the average person encounters is harmful.

Believe me, I'm conflicted about it. I totally understand what you're saying and I agree.

I don't have a problem with smokers being able to go outside and smoke...even though when I'm on a patio I can smell it and don't really like it. I figure we've got to compromise, and if I can get a non-smoking interior then I'm good with "sharing" patios, etc. IIRC in Indiana they just have really super-strict regulations about smoking and non-smoking areas inside the bars/restaurants...I think they actually have to have separate ventilation systems and the rooms have to be sealed off from one another. The smoking room is kept at a slightly lower air pressure so that smoke doesn't get out, etc. That always seemed like a decent deal to me.

Bottom line...smoking isn't good for you, and secondhand smoke turns non-smokers into smokers. The same is NOT true of alcohol. If I'm drinking and you're not, the alcohol in my drink isn't getting into your body. When you light up and I'm anywhere near you, I'm sucking in your fumes.

You have some evidence of that happening? Sounds like a scare story to me.

Wasn't singling out anybody in particular here, but you do the same thing..

You pass a crazy stupid law, that requires others to rat you out.. If your kid is crying or you are talking too loud the ones around you can tell those who own the business to make you leave or call the cops.. Just think another money making scheme for the police to control...

Plenty of first hand evidence on here of local bars closing because they lost their smoking crowds..

I didn't mean to insinuate that you did mean me, I was just pointing out that it can be handled sans new law.

Very few laws are actual net gains to the public coffers. These certainly aren't.

I'm still torn.

Not to be flip, but businesses go under all the time. If your business is that reliant on one demographic it's probably not a real secure business to begin with.
