I love for us to finally get the next Willie Lanier, Rey Maualuga. But I hope we somehow end up with 2 firsts to use one on him. The other, on Bradford or McCoy, if they do come out. I'm not sold on Stafford.

If the Chiefs have the #1 overall pick and Carl and Herm are making the selection at that time, it wouldn't bode so well with me if those guys are taking a QB. If they groom that QB, they'll destroy him.
As stupid as this sounds to some, but I honestly think it would be a wise choice, if they could find a trading partner, trade that #1 overall pick. the amount of value you could get in return is insurmountable. Mind you, I say this because I feel Carl and Herm will be back another year. Seriously whats the point of drafting a QB? You have a coach who has a history of getting his QB's hurt because he can't run a real offense, and his teams always have piss poor pass protection. Never a good combination especially for a young QB. If you can get multiple picks in return in the process by trading down, why not? You really think drafting a QB is going to be the saviour of this team? I don't know about you guys, but Im thinking overall team. The whole team sucks and could use help anywhere possible. You trade down you could even get a 1st rounder next year, and possibly 2 2nds, and 3rds for this year and next. this team is not gonna get better just by drafting a QB. They could use picks everywhere, and help at multiple positions. That's how you rebuild. I like what they did last year by getting extra picks, and I honestly wouldn't mind if that happened again. Of course having Herm and Carl here don't help the young players. But hey at least if they stick around for possibly another year, and this organization gets as many young guys as possible, and after Carl and Herm are gone(when there contracts run out) Im holding my breath Clark isn't dumb enough to give them contract extensions, those young players will have a real GM and head coach here to help their game. |

I agree with your concerns about Carl/Herm, but even if they are back next year, that's almost assuredly the last year of that regime. Hopefully, a drafted QB would sit most/all of the year on the bench behind a FA pickup, limiting the exposure behind a shoddy OL. Even if they wanted to trade the #1, I think they'd have difficulty doing so. There's really not a "can't miss" prospect that everyone is clamoring for this year... |

I understand the concern about having Herm and Carl around while a new QB is groomed, as they are teh suck. However, Stafford is a pretty damned good QB specimen. He has size, mobility, arm strength, he's played in a pro style offense, and he doesn't have shit to work with, so he's much more used to making the kinds of throws that you need to make in order to succeed in the NFL (I'm talking to you, Bradford and McCoy). If some team offers you a king's ransom, and dumb and dumber are still around, I can see the logic of trading down. But at the same time, I worry that the development of our team will be further delayed. Something on the order of a top five pick, a first next year, a third, and a fifth (basically what NYG paid for Manning) should be what they would ask for if they were to trade out of that spot.

for a young QB, that's never a good sign. We all know getting hurt most of the time doesn't lead to progression. And that is my ultimate concern. Now, if they draft a QB with Carl and Herm here, Im with you, I hope that QB rides the pine for 1 year and play the next year with a new regime. Im a firm believer, mind you this is my opinion, that a young QB will succeed if the environment around him is healthy enough. As we all know, that is not the case with Kansas City. Instead of a QB, I'd rather go with the idea of drafting more lineman. I always beleive good football teams start upfront. I'd love it if this team were to draft another offensive tackle or even a pass rusher? If they could find a trading partner and get more picks, even better. |

Is it crazy to take a QB first overall and then, in the style of the packers, use a 3rd (hopefully assuming we have more than 1 thirds) taking another QB?

and of course, O-line in the second, assuming the tackles dont go on a run like last year, in which case take the best talent available.

Oher Smith Monroe Meredith Jason Smith Troy Kropog (sleeper alert...genetic freak) Jamon Meredith Plus, given the fact that so many teams used high picks on tackles last year, you're probably going to get pretty good value on them this year, as teams will stupidly pick for need over BPA/positional value.
