HUMAN TARGET...get ready

Hey Chiefs Planet members....this is one of the most exciting TV series I've ever worked on...Mark Valley is amazing as Christopher Chance...a guy hired to flush out the bad guy....kind of Bourne meets Bond...you'll love it. I'm Mark's stand-in/photo-double...Jan. 17th....huge explosions, hot chicks, and fights.....great entertainment as our red and gold are out...(yet again)....

I'm watching, I like it so far. It's not my favorite show, but it's a little like Chuck. I can watch while I'm working and not have to watch every second like I would with a show like LOST.

Very entertaining show with just enough depth to make for a season long arch with largely weekly plots. The trio of lead actors worked very well together as well. Really hope this gets renewed.

I haven't seen any of Lie to Me since I always figured its concept would be pretty annoying. Really hope Human Target manages to stick around. A good action series with great leads seems pretty rare these days.

Lie to Me is decent, if a little 'cookie cutter.' Same old reliable Columbo schtick with a tech twist. They use monitoring equipment and their expertise in human nature to tell when people are lying through microexpressions, rises in metabolism, pupil dialation, etc. Employ it privately, and occasionally for law enforcement on a contract basis. The 'drama' revolves around the ethics of their duties, mentoring new hires, and Roth's outsized character, moody, boozy, divorced [from someone also in the business], and a degenerate gambler [due to his 'abilities' to read people as much as anything else, so since he wins so much 'degenerate' is not the perfect description].

Tim Roth is clearly a big piece of the puzzle [I'm talking about regarding which show stays, not in the show itself] due to his profile.

For me, I just want some show with Kelli Williams' punim on it.

Apparently they've renewed both, and both will have new show runners. Matt Miller, formerly of Chuck, for Human Target and someone will be replacing Shawn Ryan on Lie to Me. Ryan's the show runner on a new Fox show called RideAlong.

I've never watched either, but I figure folks will be happy to hear the news...

Forgive me but what is a "show runner"?

That doesn't really help. You mean the producer?

As I understand it, basically it's like the boss of the entire series. The top of the producer food chain.

Think bigger. Like the highest exective producer on the ladder. Responsible for everything creative on the show, the guy who answers directly to the network.

Dr. Google says:
Quote:
Show runner (alternatively showrunner[1]) is a term originating in the United States and Canadian television industry referring to the person who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of a television series. (This should not be confused with runners, who are the most junior members of the production team.) The term is also occasionally applied to people in the television industries of other countries. Unlike films, where directors are typically in creative control of a production, in episodic television the showrunner usually outranks the director.[2]

Traditionally, the executive producer of a television program was the "chief executive", responsible for the show's production. Over time, the title of executive producer became applied to a wider range of roles, from those responsible for arranging financing to an honorific without actual management duties. The term "show runner" was created to identify the producer who actually held ultimate management and creative authority for the program. The blog (and book) Crafty Screenwriting defines showrunner as "the person responsible for all creative aspects of the show, and responsible only to the network (and production company, if it's not his production company). The boss. Usually a writer."[3]

Los Angeles Times columnnist Scott Collins describes show runners as:[4]
Quote:
"Hyphenates," a curious hybrid of starry-eyed artists and tough-as-nails operational managers. They're not just writers; they're not just producers. They hire and fire writers and crew members, develop story lines, write scripts, cast actors, mind budgets and run interference with studio and network bosses. It's one of the most unusual and demanding, right-brain/left-brain job descriptions in the entertainment world....[S]how runners make — and often create — the shows, and now more than ever, shows are the only things that matter. In the "long tail" entertainment economy, viewers don't watch networks. They don't even care about networks. They watch shows. And they don't care how they get them.[5]
Traditionally, the showrunner is the creator or co-creator of the series, but this is not always the case.[citation needed] In long-running shows, often the creator of the show moves on, and day-to-day responsibilities of showrunning falls to other writers or writing teams. ER, The Simpsons, The West Wing, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and NYPD Blue are all examples of long-running shows that went through multiple showrunners
